Women's Basketball Set for Two in Home Opening Week

Blossoms to take on Pioneers and Warhawks

MONTICELLO, Ark. - Arkansas-Monticello's Women's Basketball team (1-1) is gearing up for two games this week in their 2024-25 home opener home stand. The Blossoms will take on the Pioneers of Crowley's Ridge College on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m., before going up against the Warhawks of Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.) on Friday, Nov. 15 at 5:00 p.m. inside Steelman Fieldhouse.

"Excited to play at home in front a great group of fans," said Head Coach David Midlick. "We will work to correct mistakes and emphasize the positive things from last week."

LAST MEETING
Crowley's Ridge College - The Cotton Blossoms came out on top in the last meeting versus the Pioneers, winning 85-61 in Monticello. Haleigh Crews led Arkansas-Monticello with 19 points, going 8-13 on total field goals and 3-5 from beyond the arc, as well as contributing a team-leading eight rebounds on the night, with five offensive and three defensive, two assists, and a steal. Kelsey Blakemore was the second Blossom in double digits on the night, posting 17 points of her own, hitting 6-9 field goals, 2-4 threes, and 3-6 free throws, also contributing to six rebounds, two steals, one block, and an assist. Alindsey Long and Bailey Harris were the final Blossoms to shoot double digits, seeing 12 and 10 points, respectively. Long saw a 4-12 field goal ratio, 2-8 on threes, and 2-2 free throws on top of her three rebounds, three blocks, and two assists. Harris went 4-9 on the night and 2-2 on free throws, on top of her five rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.


Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.) - The Warhawks proved victorious over the Blossoms winning 63-54 in November of 2023 in Montgomery, Alabama. Alyssia Thorne led the way for Arkansas-Monticello with 17 points, going 7-14 on total field goals and 3-4 on free throws and contributing three offensive and six defensive rebounds on the night for a team-leading nine, and two assists and two steals in her 35 minutes played. Alindsey Long posted 12 points of her own on the game, hitting 4-11 field goals, 2-6 three-pointers, and 2-2 free throws and one assist. Bailey Harris was the final Blossom in double-digits, scoring 11 points against the Warhawks. Harris hit 5-9 field goals and 1-2 shots from the line with five rebounds, four blocks, two assists, and two steals.


ALL-TIME SERIES
Crowley's Ridge College - Through four matches UAM currently sits undefeated, 4-0,since they first played each other in December of 2013. All four victories came from inside Steelman Fieldhouse with the last win being an 85-61 win, and the first match being a blow out 101-44. The Blossoms have scored 368 points, averaging 92 points per game. 

Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.) - Through three matches played, the Warhawks lead with an overall record of 3-0, since the first game in 1993. The Blossoms played Auburn (Ala.) twice in the 90's (1993 and 1994), before playing them a third time 30 years later in 2023. The Blossoms have scored 192 points combined between all three games, averaging 64 points a game.

LAST TIME OUT
  • UAM went 1-1 last week in the GAC/MIAA Crossover Tournament with a 73-47 win to Newman University on Friday, Nov. 8, and a 66-77 loss to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith on Saturday, Nov. 9.
