SEARCY, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team dropped to 0-3 in Great American Conference play after dropping their Thursday afternoon match-up with Harding University. The Blossoms came up just short of their first conference win of the season in an 84-61 loss to the Lady Bisons.
Bailey Harris led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (5-4, 0-3 GAC), scoring 21 points in the match-up. Harris hit 9-16 field goals on the day, 1-2 on three-pointers, and 2-2 from the free throw line. She also contributed four rebounds in her 31 minutes played, with two defensive and two offensive, and two rebounds.
Alindsey Long followed close behind on the afternoon, posting 19 points of her own. Long went 8-10 on field goals and
3-3 from beyond the arc, with one rebound and one block.
Harding (6-2, 2-0 GAC) was led by
Sage Hawley with 18 points.
The first quarter began with the Blossoms hitting the game's first shot on a layup by
Kelsey Blakemore. After seeing the lead change three times, the teams would head into the second quarter with the Lady Bisons on top, 17-12. Although the Lady Bisons outscored UAM in the second 10-minute period, the Blossoms saw a higher field goal percentage over Harding. The teams head to the locker room with the Blossoms trailing 45-29.
The second half saw the Lady Bisons once again increase their lead over the Blossoms. Harding posted 21 points to UAM's 17, increasing the advantage to 20 points in the third quarter. Unfortunately, the Harding offense would push forward again in the fourth, leading to an 84-61 loss for Monticello.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 19 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
