MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team claimed its first Great American Conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon against Ouachita Baptist University. The Blossoms took down the Tigers with a 76-69 overtime victory at Steelman Fieldhouse.
Kelsey Blakemore led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (6-4, 1-3 GAC), scoring 21 points in the match-up. Blakemore hit 7-10 field goals on the day, 3-5 on three-pointers, and 4-4 from the free throw line. She also contributed five rebounds in her 36 minutes played, with four defensive and one offensive. She grabbed three assists, one block, and one steal on the afternoon.
Kennedee Shelton followed close behind on the afternoon, posting 19 points of her own. Shelton went 5-8 on field goals, 1-2 from beyond the arc, and 8-10 from the free throw line. She also contributed ten rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
Bailey Harris was the final Blossom in double-digits, with 17 points in the game. Harris was 6-15 in field goals and 5-9 on free throws with two rebounds and one assist.
Ouachita Baptist (3-4, 0-4 GAC) was led by
Heidi Robinson with 17 points.
The Tigers won the opening quarter of the game, seeing Ouachita Baptist outscore UAM 20-9, but the Blossoms fought back in the second quarter to outscore the Tigers 13-12. The teams would head to the locker room at half-time with OUA leading, 32-22.
Quarter three showed the momentum of the Blossoms, scoring 22 points in comparison to Ouachita's 13. Ouachita Baptist kept its advantage to one point, leading 45-44 heading into the final quarter of the game. The fourth quarter was again a battle throughout its entirety. After an immaculate basketball display, regular time ended with the two teams tied, 62-62. The Blossoms carried their momentum to squeeze out the win, 76-69.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 9 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms will play another conference game on Thursday, December 19. They will travel to Arkansas Tech, and the game will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
