First Half Efforts Lead to 68-57 Win Over SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball continued on with conference play on Thursday afternoon when they traveled to compete against out of state conference member Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The Weevils came out with a win over the Bulldogs.

Isaac Jackson once again led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (9-9, 7-6 GAC) with 26 points, going 10-15 on total field goals, 1-2 from beyond-the-arc, and 5-6 from the line. Jackson also contributed five rebounds, with one offensive and four defensive in his 40 minutes of play.

Zane Nelson followed close behind, posting 20 points of his own for the Boll Weevils. Nelson hit 6-14 total field goals, 2-7 threes, and 6-6 shots from the line with seven defensive rebounds, and five assists. 
 
Southwestern Oklahoma (6-12, 6-7 GAC) was led by Ben Smith with 19 points. 

The Boll Weevils came out hot to open the game, taking an 8-0 lead over the Bulldogs early thanks to six points from Isaac Jackson. UAM would increase their lead throughout the opening 20 minutes to a high of 13 points with 9:30 left on the clock. After a brief comeback from SWOSU, the half would eventually come to a close with Arkansas-Monticello on top. The teams were sent to the locker rooms with UAM leading, 38-31.

The second 20 minutes saw an aggressive display of basketball between the two teams, with UAM once again outscoring the home team. The Weevils held control for the rest of the game, seeing a game-high advantage of 16 points after a massive dunk from the team's leading scorer, Isaac Jackson. Arkansas-Monticello saw their final points of the game on free throws. The game would conclude with a 68-57 victory over the Bulldogs.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 19 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils return to conference play on Saturday, Feb. 3rd when they travel to compete against out of state conference member Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 3:00 p.m.
