Weevils Unable to Stop Ranger Offense, Leave NWOSU with 81-63 Loss

ALVA, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball continued with conference play on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to out of state conference member Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The Weevils came out with an 81-63 Loss to the Rangers.

Isaac Jackson led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (9-10, 7-7 GAC) with 20 points, going 8-23 on total field goals, and 4-4 from the line. Jackson also contributed two rebounds, and two assists in his 40 minutes of play.

Wesley Booker and Josh Denton followed close behind, each posting 12 points of their own for the Boll Weevils. Booker hit 3-6 total field goals, 1-2 threes, and 5-6 shots from the line with six rebounds, one assist, and a block. Denton contributed 3-6 total field goals, 3-6 beyond the arc, and 3-4 from the line. Denton also had two rebounds, one assist, and one steal for the weevils.
 
Northwestern Oklahoma (11-9, 9-5 GAC) was led by Brian Free with 23 points.

The Rangers scored the first points of the game on a jumper to take an early 3-0 lead. UAM was unable to attain the advantage, after seeing NWOSU take control for the rest of the first half, but the Weevils stayed within reach throughout the entirety of the opening 20 minutes. The teams were sent to the locker rooms with NWOSU leading, 37-31.

The second 20 minutes saw an aggressive display of basketball between the two teams, with 76 points scored between them. The Rangers held control for the rest of the half keeping their lead of 15 for most of the half. Arkansas-Monticello saw their final points of the game from Donovan Cooper going 1-1 with 24 seconds left on the clock. The Weevils would conclude the game with a 81-63 loss to the Rangers.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 13 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils return to Steelman Fieldhouse on Thursday, Feb. 8th when they host out of state conference member Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
