Women's Basketball Lose to East Central in Heartbreaking Finish

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team hosted out-of-state conference member, East Central University on Saturday afternoon. The Blossoms came out with a 52-50 loss to the Tigers. 

Kelsey Blakemore and Alindsey Long were tied for the leading scorer for Arkansas-Monticello (7-15, 3-13 GAC) with 12 points each on the day. Blakemore hit 4-6 field goals, 2-2 on threes, and 2-5 on shots from the line while also giving Arkansas-Monticello two offensive and four defensive rebounds, two assists and a steal. Long was 4-9 on total field goals and 4-7 on threes with one rebound, three assists, and three steals.
 
East Central (7-13, 3-13 GAC) was led by Kennedy Cummings, Kate Ogle, and Mackenzie Crusoe with 13 points each, respectfully.

Blakemore opened the game for Monticello with a three on their first possession within 13 seconds of the game. For the rest of the quarter the teams would continue to trade points back and forth and the score remained close the whole time. The score going into the second had Arkansas-Monticello tied with East Central 11-11.

Quarter two once again was a battle, with seven lead changes, tied up between the Tigers and Blossoms, 13-13. The teams would head to the locker room at half time with Arkansas-Monticello tied with East Central, 24-24.

The third quarter once again remained close as both teams continued to fight back and forth for control over the game. UAM trailed ECU 34-39 heading into the final quarter of the game.

The final quarter was again a battle throughout its entirety. After an intense final period, a final couple free throws from the Tigers would solidify a 52-50 loss for UAM.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 16 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to action on Thursday, Feb. 15th when they travel to face off with rival conference member Southern Arkansas University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
