MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball continued with conference play on Thursday evening when they traveled to face rival conference member Southern Arkansas University. The Weevils came out with a 67-65 win to the Muleriders.
Zane Nelson led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (10-12, 8-9 GAC) with 27 points, going 11-24 on total field goals and 5-14 from beyond-the-arc. Jackson also contributed seven rebounds, seven assists, and a steal in his 39 minutes of play.
Isaac Jackson followed close behind, contributing 25 points of his own throughout the game, hitting 10-20 field goals, 4-8 threes, and also 1-2 free throws with an offensive rebound and an assist.
Southern Arkansas (9-14, 7-10 GAC) was led by
Carel Ray Jr. with 28 points.
The first half of the game saw an aggressive display of basketball between the two teams, with 74 points scored between them. For the entirety of the quarter, the teams would continue to trade points back and forth and the score remained close the whole time. The score going into the second half had Arkansas-Monticello tied with Southern Arkansas, 37-37.
The second 20 minutes once again remained close as both teams continued to fight back and forth for control over the game, seeing the lead change seven times. After a last second buzzer beater from deep for
Zane Nelson, the Boll Weevils came out of the match-up with a 67-65 victory over the Muleriders.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 9 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
