Blossoms Dominate in Home Opener Sweep Over Delta State

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team hosted the Delta State Lady Statesmen for a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. The Blossoms dominated the day with a 6-0 win in game one, followed by a 5-3 victory in game two.

Scoring Recap:
Kennedy Cox gave the Blossoms the first run of the game on a solo home run over the right field wall in the fourth. Maggie Miller double in the left center gap to score Lexie Smith, followed by a Courtnee Sensibaugh walk to bring home Sophie Wood. The final run of the inning came from a Bailey Camp HBP to score Jadyn Hart.

Adrianna Erichsen tripled in the sixth inning, having Sensibaugh cross the plate on the drive. Cox drove in the final run of the game on a SAC fly to center field.

The Blossom came out with a 6-0 victory to pen the day.

Scoring Recap:
Kennedy Cox once again got the Blossoms rolling, scoring Erichsen on a ground ball in the first.

The Lady Statesmen scored their first run of the day on an RBI in the second.

Grace Neal doubled to left in the third to bring home Cox and Erichsen, increasing the Blossom lead to 3-1.

Erichsen roped a two RBI double of her own in the fourth inning to push UAM to a 5-1 advantage over Delta State.

Two RBI in the top of the seventh for DSU brought the visiting Lady Statesmen back to a 5-3 deficit, but saw the effort prove not enough as the final out of the game came on a ground out to Sensibaugh at short.

The sweep on the day pushes Arkansas-Monticello to a 7-5 record in the 2024 season.

Arkansas-Monticello is back to work in Cleveland, Mississippi, Friday Feb. 16th, as the take on Delta State in another doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
