BETHANY, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men's Basketball continued conference play on Thursday evening when they traveled to Southern Nazarene University. The Weevils came out with a 57-54 loss to the Crimson Storm.
Zane Nelson and
Isaac Jackson led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (11-13, 9-10 GAC) with 17 points each. Nelson went 7-19 on total field goals, 1-5 from beyond-the-arc, and 2-2 from the free throw line. Nelson also contributed five rebounds, three assists, and two steals in his 39 minutes of play. Jackson went 8-23 on total field goals, 1-4 from range, and grabbed six rebounds while dishing out an assist in his 39 minutes of play.
Timur Krupalija was the final Weevil in double digits, contributing 13 points of his own throughout the game, hitting 6-11 total field goals and 1-1 free throw with three rebounds and two blocks.
Southern Nazarene (12-12, 9-10 GAC) was led by
Benno Zecic with 14 points.
The opening half of the game was ultimately won by the Boll Weevils. At the end of the first 20 minutes, Monticello proved to reign victorious, having outscored the Crimson Storm 26 points to 23.
Isaac Jackson and
Zane Nelson combined for 19 of UAM's points throughout the quarter. The team saw a combined field goal percentage of 38.7% compared to the home team's 33.3% as the teams would head to the locker room.
The second 20 minutes started out with the Weevils still maintaining their lead, and at one point leading by 10 points. UAM was unable to maintain their lead as the Crimson Storm clawed back and took control of the game. The Boll Weevils came out of the match-up with a 57-54 loss to the Crimson Storm.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 11 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils return to action on Saturday, Feb. 24th when they face off against out-of-state conference member Oklahoma Baptist University. The game is scheduled to tip off at 3:00 p.m.
