Weevils Win 7th Straight, Leave Southeastern With Second Sweep in Conference Play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DURANT, Okla. – Following their victory on Friday, the University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team closed out their out of state conference series with a sweep over Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Weevils came out with a 11-10 win in game one, followed by a 6-5 win in game two against the Savage Storm.

Game 1, 9 Innings

Scoring Recap:
The bats started of hot for the Weevils in game one, as a double from Cade Cancilla would bring home Roc Hawthrone, Chaz Poppy, and Camden Tanner across the plate for an early lead in the top of the first.

The Weevils bats caught fire again in the fourth with a double from Chase Cripps. Aidan Garret stepped up and hit a three run home run to put the Weevils up 6-2. Roc Hawthrone would hit another double to continue UAM's rally. Hawthorne would then score off a single to left center from Poppy, bringing the Weevil lead to 7-2 after the top of the fourth.

Southeastern would close in on the Weevils lead in the bottom of the fourth making the score 7-5, but the Weevils responded with another crooked number in the fifth, with a three run home run, this time from Kirk Woolf, making the score 10-5.

The Savage Storm would attempt to make another the come back in the bottom of the seventh, inevitably being shut down for the remaining two innings. The Weevils took the first game of the day 11-10.

Scoring Recap:
The final game of the series saw two singles from Roc Hawthrone and Camden TannerKirk Woolf hit a two-run double to get the Weevils on the board. Will Owens followed up with a two-run home run to put Monticello on top 4-0 in the first inning.

Southeastern would put up four runs of their own in the bottom of the third to tie up the game, and end up taking the lead from the Weevils in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double to make the game 5-4.

The Weevils capitalized off of two errors from the Savage Storm, making the score 6-5.

Nelson Mercado came in and shut down Southeastern in the final inning after allowing only one hit and no runs, resulting in a 6-5 win for UAM.

Pitching Performances
Game 1
Charles Peacock started on the mound for UAM in game one, taking the win with 5.0 innings pitched, allowing only three hits and five runs. Peacock also struck out 12 batters in his appearance.
- Trey Miller tossed to a few batters giving up one run and walking three batters.
- Jacob McDaniels tossed 1.1 innings giving up three runs on one hit.
- Kyle Roop was the next Weevil to come in the game pitching 2.0 innings giving up only one run on 2 hits. Roop also struck out 4 batters in his appearance.
- Nelson Mercado closed out the last 0.2 inning, giving up 0 runs and 0 hits to close out the game for the Weevils.

Game 2
Maxim Marakovcic  started on the mound in game two, throwing 4.0 innings giving up 5 runs on 6 hits.
- James McCormick tossed 2.0 innings for the Weevils getting the win for the game, allowing 0 hits and 0 runs, with 2 strikeouts.
Nelson Mercado closed out the final 1.0 inning, earning a second save on the day, allowing only 1 hit and 0 runs.
