Weevils Leave Dugan Invitational with Loss to Lions

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Weevils returned to Majestic Park for Day 2 of the Dugan Collegiate Baseball Invitational to play against Missouri Southern State. The Weevils came out with a 10-6 loss to the Lions to complete the final day of the Invitational.

Scoring Recap:
Missouri Southern State started off the game with four runs scored in the second.

Chaz Poppy homered to left field in the fourth to put the Weevils back within two, scoring Chase Cripps in the process.

The Lions saw two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to give Missouri Southern a 6-2 lead.

An Aidan Garrett single and a Kirk Woolf home run to left field tied the game up at six.

The home team crossed the plate four more times throughout the remainder of the game, with UAM unable to respond. The game would conclude with a 10-6 loss for the Boll Weevils.


Pitching Performances
Maxim Mrakovcic started on the mound, throwing 2.0 innings with four runs allowed on five hits. Mrakovcic had three strikeouts and four walks in his outing.
Charles Peacock tossed 1.2 innings with 2 runs allowed on 0 hits. Peacock also struck out three batters and had six walks.
- Trey Miller was the third Weevil to pitch, totaling 0.1 inning with two runs allowed on one hit. Miller saw a strike out and a walk.
- Dylan Vail threw to two batters, giving up a run with a walk and a HBP.
- Jacob McDaniel grabbed 1.0 inning of work, striking out two and walking one with no hits allowed.
- Zach Boyer had 1.1 innings on the game, allowing a run on two hits with three walks and a strikeout.
- Nelson Mercado closed out the final 1.2 innings, allowing 0 runs on 0 hits with two walks and a strike out.

Offensive Showcase
- Chaz Poppy - 3-for-5 with a home run and 2 RBI 
- Kirk Woolf - 1-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBI

The result of the days games puts the Weevils at a 1-1 record for the 2024 season.
