Baseball to Host Ouachita Baptist, Pick Up Game at Henderson State

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team is scheduled to host Ouachita Baptist for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, and are set to travel to Henderson State on Tuesday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m.

The Boll Weevils will take on the Tigers at Weevils Field tomorrow afternoon (Pending current and incoming weather).

Currently, the first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m. If changes are made to the scheduling, updates will be provided on both the Weevils Baseball X account and the UAM Sports Facebook page.

Tomorrow's games will be live streamed on the UAM Sports YouTube page and will have live stats available. Both will have clickable links on the 2024 baseball schedule at uamsports.com.

To make up for having to cancel their scheduled midweek with the Reddies earlier in the season, an away game has been picked up in Arkadelphia for Tuesday, April 16. First pitch is currently set for 6:00 p.m., and all live stream and stat links will be available.

Heading into tomorrow's doubleheader, Arkansas-Monticello (15-13) and Ouachita Baptist (19-11) are both tied for first in the Great American Conference standings with a 12-6 record, alongside Southern Arkansas and Harding. The Boll Weevils are coming off a 1-2 series loss to Southern Nazarene this past weekend. Meanwhile, the Tigers are heading into Tuesday after a series sweep over Southeastern Oklahoma.

In terms of offensive showcase, OUA is second in the conference with a team batting average of .303. UAM trails close behind in forth with an overall batting average of .294. The Tigers' bats have also been a deadly factor to their offense on the year, being first in the GAC for doubles with 69 total and second in the conference for home runs with total on the year.

Monticello sits at first in the conference for least amount of strikeouts with only 169, while Ouachita Baptist is hovering at sixth with 218 heading into Tuesday's doubleheader.

On the bump, UAM has the fifth lowest ERA in the GAC with a 4.97 throughout the 2024 season. OUA leads the conference with a 3.92 ERA among their staff so far this year.

Cade Cancilla leads  offense for Monticello, holding a .357 average throughout the first 28 contests of the year. Cancilla sits third on the team in slugging percentage with a .571, hitting nine doubles, two home runs, and one triple, and second on the team in both RBI and total bases with 26 and 52.

Redshirt freshman Camden Tanner has proven a big part of the Boll Weevil offense, boasting a .344 average on the year with a team-leading slugging of .544. Tanner has nine RBI and three home runs on the year, while holding a .454 on-base percentage.

The Tigers' top three hitters are Michael Quinones, Tallon Heine, and Joseph, Bolin; all of which are in the Top-20 averages for the GAC. Among the three are 20 doubles, 12 home runs, and two triples throughout Ouachita's 2024 campaign.

HISTORY
Heading into Tuesday's doubleheader, the all-time series between Arkansas-Monticello and Ouachita Baptist leans towards the Boll Weevils, with UAM holding a 92-69 record over the Tigers. Since joining the Great American Conference in 2012, Monticello has a record of 30-22 in contests against Ouachita. At Weevils Field, the record is split 10-10 since joining the conference.

Earlier this season, UAM lost the series against OUA, taking game one, but losing both games in the Saturday doubleheader.

The largest margin of victory came on April 11, 2021 when UAM reigned victorious in a 17-3 victory in game two of their conference series. The Tigers would take the series.
