Weevils Baseball to Host Oklahoma Baptist in Opening Weekend of GAC Tournament

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team is scheduled to host Oklahoma Baptist in the opening weekend of Great American Conference Championships play. The Boll Weevils will take on the Bison in a best-of-three, elimination series.

This weekend's games will be live streamed on the UAM Sports YouTube page and will have live stats available. Both will have clickable links on the 2024 baseball schedule at uamsports.com.

TICKETING
Tickets will be sold at the gate each day of competition for CASH ONLY. Admission will be $5 a ticket for adults and free for children aged 12 and under. UAM students, faculty, and staff that supply a valid student ID, or those hold a AAA card or a GAC pass, will get free admission to the games.

UAM vs. OBU HISTORY
Heading into the weekend series, the all-time series between Arkansas-Monticello and Oklahoma Baptist leans towards the Weevils, with UAM holding a 15-11 record over the Bison. Since joining the Great American Conference in 2012, Monticello has a record of 15-9 in conference match-ups against Oklahoma Baptist. At Weevils Field, the record is split 7-5 UAM since joining the conference.

Earlier this season, UAM won the series against OBU, splitting day one of the series, and sealing the series with a 13-3 run-rule win in game three.

The largest margin of victory came on April 5, 2019 when UAM reigned victorious in a 19-2 victory in game one of their conference series. The Weevils would take the series 3-0.

PREVIEW
Heading into tournament play, Arkansas-Monticello (27-20) and Oklahoma Baptist (31-18) are heading in the weekend as the first and eighth seed in the Great American Conference Tournament. The Boll Weevils are coming off a 2-1 series win over Southern Arkansas this past weekend. Meanwhile, the Bison are heading into Friday after a series sweep over Southern Nazarene.

In terms of offensive showcase, UAM is fourth in the conference with a team batting average of .299. OBU leads in first, with an overall batting average of .341. When it comes to fire power at the plate, the Bison prevail over the Weevils in multiple categories. Oklahoma Baptist has a 105-102 advantage on doubles, a 85-61 lead in home runs, and a .577 slugging percentage compared to Monticello's .490.

Monticello sits at first in the conference for least amount of strikeouts with only 287, while Oklahoma Baptist is sitting at ninth with 376 heading into the weekend.

On the bump, UAM has the fifth lowest ERA in the GAC with a 5.72 throughout the 2024 season. OBU sits at ninth in the conference with a 6.52 ERA among their staff so far this year.

OFFENSIVE SHOWCASE
• Redshirt Freshman Camden Tanner leads the offense for Monticello, holding a conference leading .433 average throughout the year. Tanner also leads the team in slugging percentage with a .738, hitting a team-high 14 doubles and 12 home runs. He also leads UAM in On-base percentage with a .520.
Aidan Garrett has proven a big part of the Boll Weevil offense, boasting a .336 average on the year. Garrett has five doubles and 10 home runs, while holding a .591 slugging and a .455 on-base percentages.
• Cade Cancilla has also made a name in Boll Weevil offense, with a .321 average on the year. Cancilla has 11 doubles, six home runs, and one triple on the year, while holding a .512 slugging and a .400 on-base percentages.
• The Bison's top three hitters are Troy Shields, Isiah Lissade, and Will Joseph; two of which are in the Top-10 averages for the GAC. Among the three are 36 doubles, 32 home runs, and five triple's throughout Oklahoma Baptist's 2024 campaign.

PITCHING SHOWCASE
• Connor Irvine has the lowest ERA of starters on the Boll Weevil staff, boasting a 3.91 on the year. Irvine has a 7-1 record on the season with 71 strikeouts through 76.0 innings pitched in 2024.
Charles Peacock has the second lowest ERA of the weekend starters with a 5.53 on the year. Peacock has a 3-3 record on the season with 84 strikeouts through 53.2 innings.
• Oklahoma Baptist is lead by Nolan Feazle and Brek Galbreath. Feazle holds a 4.02 ERA with a 7-3 record on the year while striking out 60. Galbreath has a 6-3 record through 13 starts with 64 strikeouts and a 6.24 ERA.
