Baseball to Open Regionals Against Arkansas Tech

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The 2024 Great American Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champion Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevil baseball team is heading to Joplin, Missouri from May 16-19 for the NCAA DII Central Region Tournament. UAM is going into the weekend as the sixth seed and will open the tournament against Arkansas Tech University, the NCAA announced Sunday, May 12.

For the first time since the 2019 season, the Boll Weevils are heading to the Central Region Tournament! UAM saw their first regional birth in 2016, when they reached the finals against Central Missouri. Monticello would drop the contest with the Mules, 7-4, but close out the season with 40 total wins.

UAM has since seen two more regional appearances, earning a spot in both the 2017 and 2019 seasons. Arkansas-Monticello also won four straight conference titles from 2016-2019.

Missouri Southern State and Central Missouri earned the title of tournament hosts for the two four-team regional tournaments. UCM is the No. 1 seed and MSSU is the No. 2 seed.

Upon the conclusion of both regional tournaments, the winners will then meet in a best-of-three Super Regional series at the site of the highest remaining seed next weekend, May 24-25.

The team advancing out of the Super Regional will earn a spot in the NCAA-II College World Series June 1-8 in Cary, N.C.

The tournament, which is double-elimination, will continue through Saturday, May 18, unless an if-necessary game seven is forced, which will be played Sunday, May 19.

Arkansas-Monticello is set to play the tournament opener on Thursday, May 16. The Boll Weevils will take on the Wonder Boys of in-conference foe Arkansas Tech University at 1:00 p.m. at Warren Turner Field in Joplin, Missouri.
