MAGNOLIA, Ark. - Arkansas-Monticello's Men's Basketball finished the first round of GAC play Thursday evening when they traveled to take on the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University. The Weevils fell to SAU 76-63 in the rivalry game.
Seth Grandberry led Arkansas-Monticello (4-13, 1-10 GAC) again with 18 points in the game. Grandberry hit 8-21 field goals and 2-8 shots from three-point range while grabbing three rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Tadarius Jacobs was another Boll Weevil with double-digits, scoring 11 on the evening. Jacobs was 4-9 on field goals and 3-5 on three-pointers with two defensive rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Alex Brogdon was the final Weevil in double digits for UAM. Brogdon went 5-7 on field goals while grabbing two rebounds and four assists.
Southern Arkansas Univeristy (7-10, 4-7 GAC) was led by
BJ Davis with 19 points.
The first half of the game was primarily led by the Muleriders offense, striking first to take an early lead. Southern Arkansas increased their lead to 14 points with 4:42 left on the clock but saw the Weevils fight back, decreasing it to six, as both teams headed to the locker room with the Muleriders leading 39-33.
Southern Arkansas won the second 20-minute period, outscoring the Weevils 37-30. The Muleriders increased their lead to a game-high 20 points and held it for the remainder of the game, eventually winning 76-63 over Arkansas-Monticello.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 10 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils will return to the court on Saturday, January 25, in Monticello, Arkansas, when they host the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech to open the second leg of GAC play. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
