MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team will open their 2025 campaign Friday, January 31 - Sunday, February 2 at the Houston Winter Invitational hosted by the University of Central Missouri.
The Boll Weevils will take on Mississippi College at 10:00 a.m. on January 31, tournament host Central Missouri at 1:30 p.m on February 1, and Ashland University at 10:00 a.m. on February 2 inside Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.
Coming off the heels of a heartbreaking 9-4 loss to UCM in the Weevils first ever trip to the NCAA Region 3 - Super Regionals, the Weevils are hard at work preparing for a fresh start and epic season as they look forward to both the upcoming invitational and 2025 campaign.
PRESEASON NOTES
Opening off the 2025 campaign ranked 1st in the GAC Preseason Conference Poll, the Boll Weevils are ready to prove what they are made of with a nearly full returning roster and staff from 2024, that also includes 22 newly signed players, 33 returnees, and a new Graduate Assistant. Among the new signers for the men in green and white are 12 junior college transfers, three NCAA Division 1 transfers, two NCAA Division 2 transfers, one NCAA Division 3 transfer, and four true freshmen.
Joining alongside veteran Head Coach
John Harvey returns assistant coaches
Kregg Snook,
Reece Reading, and
Mason Philley. Jackson Imler is the newest member of the Boll Weevil staff, joining the staff as a graduate assistant.
"We have another tough schedule with non-conference games against Central Missouri, Ashland, Missouri Western, Delta State and Mississippi College," said Head Coach
John Harvey.
"I believe GAC Baseball is as good as it's ever been so the conference schedule will be difficult as well. It's always fun and challenging to start out the year in Houston at Daiken Park (formerly Minute Maid) and then we come back home the next weekend for our first game under the lights.
Fans will have another opportunity to experience a first for the Boll Weevils on Saturday, Feb. 8, when they play their first home night game held at Weevils Field at Union Bank Park in the program's history.

LAST MEETING | ALL-TIME SERIES
Mississippi College - The Weevils fell to the Choctaws, 10 runs to 11 in extra innings, in the last meeting on April 23, 2024 in Clinton, Mississippi. The Weevils were the first on the board, scoring three runs in the top of the first.
Chaz Poppy drove in a run on a double to left, followed by a two-RBI single from
Chase Cripps. Poppy grabbed four more RBI in the second on a grand slam to center field, increasing UAM's lead to 7-1. However, two singles and a home run over the second and third gave the Choctaws three runs to shorten the Monticello lead to 7-4.
Aidan Garrett drove in two runs in the fourth on a single of his own but saw six responses from MC in return over the fourth and six innings to give the home team a 10-9 advantage. Garrett launched a home run in the seventh to tie the game up in the seventh. The Weevils would fall to MC after a walk-off home run in the 10th inning.
| The Weevils currently hold a 20-14 overall record to the Choctaws dating back to the first meeting in March of 1989, a 6-4 win. To date the Weevils have scored 240 runs off MC, averaging 7.06 runs per game. This will be the first meeting between both teams at a neutral site, as the previous 34 have occurred in either Monticello, Arkansas or Clinton, Mississippi.
Central Missouri - The Mules halted the 2024 Weevil campaign on May 25, 2024, by beating UAM, 4-9, in the NCAA Region 3 - Super Regionals in Warrensburg, Missouri. Central Missouri was the first team on the board in game two of the series, putting up four runs in the top of the first.
Kirk Woolf responded for the Boll Weevils in the bottom half of the inning, driving in
Camden Tanner on a double down the left-field line. The Mules found a fifth run in the second but were matched by UAM on an RBI from
Parker Dorrance. Both teams posted two runs in the third. UCM saw a solo home run and an RBI ground ball, and Monticello saw a sacrifice line drive to left for
Chase Cripps, followed by an RBI double from
Aidan Garrett. Central Missouri scored a single run in the fifth and another in the eighth sealing the game, 9-4.
| Central Missouri holds a 5-2 record over the Weevils, dating back to their first meeting in February of 2013. All but three meetings have taken place in Houston at the Winter Invitational, inside Daikin Park, which was formerly Minute Maid Park. The remaining games took place in the postseason, with Central suspending the Weevils 2024 and 2016 seasons. In the Winter Invitational against the Mules, the Weevils are currently 2-2. Through 7 games played the Weevils have scored 23 runs off the Mules, averaging 4 runs per game.
Ashland University - This will be the first meeting between the Boll Weevils and the Eagles of Ashland University.
