HOUSTON, Tex. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball program kicked off its 2025 season on Friday in Houston, Texas, at the Houston Winter Invitational. The Weevils took on the Choctaws of Mississippi College and came out with a 3-2 win.

The Boll Weevils struck first in the bottom of the first. With bases loaded
Cade Cancilla singled to left bring home
Roc Hawthorne and
Camden Tanner for the first two runs of the 2025 season.
UAM added another run to the board in the bottom of the third after a wild pitch from MC's starter brought in
Kirk Woolf.
Mississippi College got on the board in the top of the 5th due to a UAM wild pitch.
A home run in the top of the 7th put MC within one, but the effort was cut short, leading to a 3-2 win to open the year.

Connor Irvine started on the mound for UAM, tossing 6.0 innings with two strikeouts, six hits, and two walks

Trey Miller saw 0.2 inning of work, ending his outing with two strikeouts and two hits.

John White made an appearance for 0.1 innings to close the top of the 7th.

Nelson Mercado tossed the final 2.0 innings, with two strikeouts and one walk, securing the save.
