Volleyball Suffers Upset from Savage Storm

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team closed out it's three game homestand Friday night with a early evening match against the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The Blossoms fell to the Savage Storm 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-17).

UAM was held to a .052 hitting percentage on 65 digs, 26 assists, 8 blocks, 5 aces, and 27 kills.

SET-BY-SET
FIRST SET (25-21 SE, SE leads 1-0)
The opening set began evenly matched as Arkansas-Monticello and Southeastern Oklahoma State battled back-and-forth for the lead, 14-14, seeing the set tie nine times. The Savage Storm flipped the set in their favor following a 3-0 rally. The Blossoms were unable to hold off the Savage Storm as SE took the first set, 25-21.

SECOND SET (25-17 SE, SE leads leads 2-0)
The Blossoms saw themselves down early in the second set, 9-6, however, six consecutive points from the Savage Storm would see them pull away to 15-6. The Blossoms fought to catch up with the Savage Storm, but UAM came up short as SE pushed forth to take the second set, 25-17. 

THIRD SET (25-17 SE, SE wins 3-0)
The third set looked to be similar to the second with the Blossoms starting behind in the scoreboard, 7-2. The Savage Storm's offense pulled ahead extending their lead, 13-6. The Blossoms would not give up, cutting the deficit to four points, 18-14, but SE rallied to take the final set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.

  • Jordan Wehr recorded her 600th career dig in the match, with her 22 digs in the match.
  • Mia Smalls recorded her ninth double-double, with her 15 digs and 11 assists. 
    • Through 17 matches Smalls has placed eight double-doubles and one triple-double into her 2025 record book.
  • Jalen Scroggins recorded her 50th career block, with her two blocks in the match.

UP NEXT
The Blossoms will head to Fort Smith, Arkansas on Tuesday October 14 for their final non-conference match of the year with the Lions of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. inside the Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
