Volleyball Falls in Rematch with Fort Smith Lions

FORT SMITH, Ark. - After falling to the Lions of UA - Fort Smith last Tuesday, your Arkansas-Monticello Blossoms traveled to Fort Smith, Arkansas for a rematch Tuesday evening inside the Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center. Looking for redemption the ladies in green and white came to the court with determination, however their quest for a rematch win fell short with the Lions taking the set 3-0.

UAM was held to a .009 hitting percentage on 49 digs, 21 assists, 2 blocks, 5 aces, and 21 kills.

FIRST SET (25-20 UAFS, UAFS leads 1-0)
The opening set began with Arkansas-Monticello falling behind in the scoreboard, 6-0. The Lions pulled away from the Blossoms' defense with five unanswered points, 14-5. UAM worked to cut the deficit before Arkansas-Fort Smith brought the match to set point, 24-14. The Blossoms held off the Lions with a last-minute 6-0 rally, however UAFS took the first set, 25-20. 

SECOND SET (25-17 UAFS, UAFS leads 2-0)
The Blossoms saw themselves down early in the second set, 12-3, following nine consecutive points by Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Blossoms would not give up, exchanging points back-and-forth with UAFS, to bring the set within four, 19-15. The Lions scored six more points over the next eight serves to win the second set, 25-17.

THIRD SET (25-11 UAFS, UAFS wins 3-0)
Arkansas-Monticello saw themselves trailing by just three points, 7-4, in the third set, after a back-and-forth rally with the Lions. Arkansas-Fort Smith pulled ahead with eight unanswered points, giving them a 15-4 advantage. The Lions would not relinquish control of the set as UAFS rallied to win the final set, 25-11, and the match, 3-0.

  • This is the first time the Blossoms and Lions have played each other twice in the same season.

UP NEXT
The Blossoms hit the road for two Oklahoma matches. Their time in Oklahoma starts on Thursday, October 16 in a meeting with the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene University. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m. inside the Sawyer Center in Bethany, Oklahoma.
