MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team closed out its GAC opener Monday with back-to-back wins over Southern Nazarene. The Boll Weevils took game one in seven innings with a final score of 13-1 and completed the series sweep with a 7-2 victory in game three.
Combined for the weekend, the UAM offense outscored SNU 42-7. All three games ended in seven innings, with game three being the only pre-scheduled seven-inning game.
Game 2, 7 Innings
Southern Nazarene: 1, Arkansas-Monticello: 13

Scoring Recap:
Southern Nazarene saw their only run of the game in the top of the first, stemming from a hit up the middle.
Arkansas-Monticello responded in the bottom of the first with six runs of their own.
Chaz Poppy and
Roc Hawthorne would score off a
Chase Cripps triple to right field.
Eli Marvin singled to right field to bring in Cripps, while
Justin Santoyo doubled to left center to plate
Cade Cancilla and Marvin. Santoyo would close out the scoring in the first thanks to an error.
The Boll Weevils added a commanding cushion of four runs in the third. Cripps made it a 7-1 ball game on a solo home run to right center. Santoyo brought in Cancilla on his second double of the day, followed by a single to left center from
Kirk Woolf that scored both
Aidan Garrett and Santoyo to home.
UAM extended the lead by three between the fifth and sixth innings, which would seal the game. In the fifth inning, Poppy singled to right to bring in
Camden Tanner.
Justin Santoyo saw his third double of the game, once again scoring Cancilla on the play, while Tanner closed out the scoring with a single up the middle to bring Santoyo across the plate. The Weevils would take game two, 13-1.

Bryce Louis started on the mound for Monticello and pitched all 7.0 innings facing 26 batters, allowing one run, with seven strikeouts and four hits.

The Boll Weevils found their footing first in the game after a
Kirk Woolf double down the left field line brought in
Roc Hawthorne, and a
Chaz Poppy single through the left side scored Woolf, to make it a 2-0 ball game.
SNU cut the deficit to one off a home run to right center.
Monticello returned the game to two runs once again after
Cade Cancilla scored off Hawthorne's double to left center.
The Crimson Storm saw their final run of the series in the top of the third off a sacrifice ground-out that plated a run.
A single from Poppy that scored Woolf, followed by a bases-loaded walk and a single brought home the final four runs of the game securing a 7-2 win and sweep for the Boll Weevils.

Maxim Mrakovcic started on the mound for UAM and earned the win. In his 5.0 innings, he struck out one and allowed two runs off two hits.

The sweep over Southern Nazarene extends the 2025 record for Arkansas-Monticello to an 8-1, 3-0 GAC record.
