Softball Splits Monday Doubleheader with Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team traveled to Cleveland, Mississippi for a doubleheader against Delta State University. The Blossoms split the day, losing the first game, 1-0, followed by a 4-1 win in game two.

Scoring Recap:
Delta State was the only team to score in the ball game, scoring the lone run on a solo home run to center field in the sixth.

Pitching Performance:
Makenzie Martin started in the circle, tossing 6.0 innings while allowing one run on three hits. She struck out four batters in her outing.

Offensive Showcase:
- Sophie Wood - 1-for-2 with a walk

Scoring Recap:
The Lady Statesmen scored first again in game two, plating a run in the second on a wild pitch.

Dacia Sexton drove in Lauren Spoon for UAM's first run of the day on a double to right center in the third. The Blossoms found a second run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Sophie Wood to take the lead.

Aubree Goodnight drove in the third run in the seventh on a single through the six-hole. She was followed by a bases-loaded walk from Jadyn Hart to plate the fourth run of the ball game for Monticello.

The game would conclude with a 4-1 win for the Blossoms.

Pitching Performance:
- Kayla Olthouse saw 2.0 innings to open the game, allowing one run on two hits. She struck out two of the 10 batters faced.
- Kyann Woods closed out the remaining 5.0 innings and took the win. She also struck out two batters while only allowing three hits.

Offensive Showcase:
Dacia Sexton - 2-for-4 with a double, 2 walks, 1 RBI, and 1 run scored
- Aubree Goodnight - 2-for-4 with a double and 1 RBI

UP NEXT
Arkansas-Monticello will return to action on Friday, Feb. 21, when they host Oklahoma Baptist University in game one of the opening series of Great American Conference play. The Friday afternoon game will also see the light dedication ceremony before the game as the program hosts its first night game in history at UAM.
