MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team is set to play two non-conference midweek games this week on Tuesday, March 25, and Wednesday, March 26. The Boll Weevils will kick the week off on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. as they welcome the Reddies of Henderson State University to Union Bank Park, before traveling to Russellville, Arkansas to take on the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. The midweek meeting between ATU and UAM is a rescheduled non-conference game that was originally planned for Tuesday, February 11.
LAST MEETING
Henderson State University - The Boll Weevils fell in the season series with the Reddies 1-2 going (2-12, 7-8, 4-2). The Reddies offense was the sole performer throughout the first six innings of the ball game, building a 9-0 lead over the Boll Weevils. UAM found a run in both the seventh and eighth innings, with
Cade Cancilla driving in the first on a double to right center and
Chase Cripps scoring the second on a double to right center of his own. HSU scored three runs in the bottom half of the eighth to complete the 10-run run-rule. The Boll Weevils were first on the board in game two as
Chaz Poppy and
Roc Hawthorne crossed home on ground outs to second base in the second and third innings respectively. The Reddies plated eight runs in the third inning via six single base hits and a walk. Arkansas-Monticello recorded one run in each inning between the sixth and ninth innings.
Chase Cripps scored in the sixth off a ground out to shortstop,
Cade Cancilla rounded home in the seventh off a sacrifice from
Kirk Woolf. Cripps reached home again in the eighth as
Justin Santoyo doubled down the right field line, and both
Camden Tanner and
Chaz Poppy would score the final two runs as Poppy hit a two-run home run to right field. The Weevils fell one run short of tying the game, falling 7-8 to HSU. In the final game of the series Henderson State was first on the board adding the first run off a home run to right center. UAM added four runs between the third and sixth innings, with
Cade Cancilla kicking the scoring off reaching home via a wild pitch in the third.
Justin Santoyo and
Chase Cripps crossed home off an
Aidan Garrett bunt in the fourth. The final two runs for Arkansas-Monticello came in the sixth as
Eli Marvin doubled down the right field line to bring in Cripps and Cancilla singled through the right side to bring in Marvin. The final run of the game would come in the seventh as The Reddies homered to right field to score a run.
Nelson Mercado recorded the win in the final game.
Arkansas Tech University - Arkansas-Monticello swept the Wonder Boys in the last meeting (12-5, 12-2, 14-12) in March of this year. Arkansas Tech was on the board first in game one, taking advantage of a Boll Weevil error to put three runs across the plate in the top of the first. UAM responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own.
Justin Santoyo drove in
Camden Tanner for the first, followed by a walk with the bases loaded to bring
Chaz Poppy across the plate.
Kirk Woolf drove in a third run in the second on a double to left center. The Wonder Boys put up another run in the fourth on an RBI single through the four-hole, but were matched with two Boll Weevil runs in the bottom of the inning.
Kirk Woolf launched a ball over the left field wall to score two, putting Monticello on top. Santoyo was responsible for three runs across the fifth and sixth innings, driving in two in the fifth on a home run to right center, followed by a bases-loaded walk in the sixth.
Cade Cancilla drove in the final four runs for UAM on a grand slam to left field. ATU brought home a consolation run in the ninth on a sac fly. ATU was once again on the board first in the opening inning of the ball game, scoring two runs in their first appearances at the plate. The runs would be the Wonder Boys' only runs of game two. The Boll Weevils scored four runs in the second, five in the third, two in the fourth, and a final run in the sixth.
Aidan Garrett kicked off the UAM scoring with an RBI down the right-field line.
Logan Jones brought home Garrett on a moon shot over the center field wall.
Roc Hawthorne scored the final run of the second after stealing third base and scoring on the throw to second. Santoyo launched his second home run of the afternoon in the third, hitting a solo shot to opposite field. Hawthorne and Poppy each found an RBI in the inning, with Garrett scoring on a bases-loaded walk between them.
Chase Cripps drove in the ninth run of the game on an RBI double to center.
Camden Tanner sent his third home run of the season over the wall in the fourth, scoring two runs on the drive over the right-center wall.
Kirk Woolf brought home the final run of the ball game in the sixth, scoring
Logan Jones on a double to left center. ATU was unable to respond, resulting in a Boll Weevil win and a 2-0 sweep on the day for UAM. For the third time on the weekend, Arkansas Tech put runs on the board first. The Wonder Boys posted three runs in the top of the first inning, scoring on a two-run home run and an RBI double. The Boll Weevils responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Chaz Poppy was responsible for four of them, driving an opposite-field grand slam over the green monster in right.
Aidan Garrett plated the fifth run on a suicide squeeze turned single to make it a 5-3 game. ATU saw a fourth run on a wild pitch in the second. Arkansas-Monticello scored seven runs between the third and fifth innings, seeing two in the third, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth.
Camden Tanner drove in both runs in the third on an RBI double to left center.
Aidan Garrett brought home two runs in the fourth on a home run to right center.
Roc Hawthorne and
Camden Tanner each drove in a run on singles up the middle.
Chaz Poppy plated the twelfth run on a solo home run in the fifth to left center. Arkansas Tech scored six runs in the sixth, taking advantage of walks alongside a sac fly and two RBI singles. The Wonder Boys plated an eleventh run in the seventh on a sac fly to make it a 12-11 game. ATU tied the game 12-12 on a solo home run in the top of the ninth.
Kirk Woolf gave UAM the win on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the inning, scoring
Roc Hawthorne on the drive.
Connor Irvine,
Maxim Mrakovcic, and
Nelson Mercado were the winners in each game respectively.

Henderson State University - The Boll Weevils lead Henderson in the overall record, 71-57. The record book dates back to the first meeting in April of 1976 a 4-8 loss for UAM. The first win for the Weevils would occur on March 19, 1977, in Arkadelphia in a 5-4 decision, the very next game held on the same day would be a 0-2 UAM forfeit loss. The longest win streak for Monticello stands at eight, achieved between March of 2014 and May of 2016. At Union Bank Park the Weevils are 38-20, while on the road they are 26-36. Through 128 games played UAM has brought in 698 runs, averaging 5.45 runs per game.
Arkansas Tech University - The Wonder Boys lead Arkansas-Monticello in the record, 74-49, which dates back to the first meeting on May 1, 1976, an 11-9 win for the Weevils. The overall conference record stands at 35-66 with ATU leading. The Boll Weevils have a 23-37 record in Monticello, an 18-35 record in Russellville, and an 8-2 record at neutral locations. The largest margin of Victory for the men in green and white came via a 16-4 9-inning decider in April of 2019. The Weevils and Wonder Boys have met 123 times, with UAM running in 649 runs, averaging 5.28 runs a game.

The Weevils swept Northwestern Oklahoma State University this past weekend going, 4-3, 8-4, and 13-2, with
Kirk Woolf once again walking off the third game of the series on a two-run home run to right-center field.
