LAST MEETING
Southeastern Oklahoma State - The Weevils swept the Savage Storm in the last GAC series 3-0.
Parker Dorrance drove in a run in the second to put the Weevils on the board, but two home runs in the bottom half of the inning for Southeastern gave the Storm the lead. Monticello saw a second run in the third on a SAC fly from
Cade Cancilla. The Storm once again responded with two more runs.
Roc Hawthorne launched a solo shot over the left-center wall in the fourth, followed by a three-run shot in the fifth from
Chaz Poppy to give UAM a 6-4 lead. The seventh inning saw
Aidan Garrett drive in a run on a single, Hawthorne drove in two on a double, and Poppy scored a final run on a single. Southeastern Oklahoma hit three home runs between the eighth and ninth innings to make it a 10-9 game. The effort would prove not enough as the game would end with a 10-9 victory of UAM. The bats started off hot for the Weevils in game two, as a double from
Cade Cancilla would bring home
Roc Hawthorne,
Chaz Poppy, and
Camden Tanner across the plate for an early lead in the top of the first. The Weevils bats caught fire again in the fourth with a double from
Chase Cripps. Aidan Garret stepped up and hit a three-run home run to put the Weevils up 6-2.
Roc Hawthorne would hit another double to continue UAM's rally. Hawthorne would then score off a single to left center from Poppy, bringing the Weevil lead to 7-2 after the top of the fourth. Southeastern would close in on the Weevils lead in the bottom of the fourth making the score 7-5, but the Weevils responded with another crooked number in the fifth, with a three-run home run, this time from
Kirk Woolf, making the score 10-5. The Savage Storm would attempt to make another comeback in the bottom of the seventh, inevitably being shut down for the remaining two innings. The Weevils took the first game of the day 11-10. \The final game of the series saw two singles from
Roc Hawthorne and
Camden Tanner.
Kirk Woolf hit a two-run double to get the Weevils on the board.
Will Owens followed up with a two-run home run to put Monticello on top 4-0 in the first inning. Southeastern would put up four runs of their own in the bottom of the third to tie up the game and end up taking the lead from the Weevils in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double to make the game 5-4. The Weevils capitalized off of two errors from the Savage Storm, making the score 6-5.
Nelson Mercado came in and shut down Southeastern in the final inning after allowing only one hit and no runs, resulting in a 6-5 win for UAM.
Connor Irvine,
Charles Peacock, and
James McCormick were the winning pitchers in the series, with
Kyle Roop and
Nelson Mercado securing the saves in games one and two.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE WEEVILS
