MONTICELLO, Ark. - The Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils are back on the road as they head to Ada, Oklahoma for a three-game series with the Tigers of East Central University on Thursday and Friday, April 17 and 18. The series kicks off at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, with a noon doubleheader to follow on Friday at Ken Turner Field
LAST MEETING
East Central University - The Boll Weevils swept the Tigers in February of 2024 to add three more wins, all played in seven innings (11-1, 14-0, 4-3), to their win streak, which stands at 11 strong. The Boll Weevils struck first, scoring three runs in the third thanks to a pair of RBI singles and an RBI double to score the final run of the inning. UAM found four more in the next inning, as the Boll Weevil bats continued heating up. The fourth would close with Monticello leading 7-0. Two runs were scored in both the fifth and sixth innings for UAM to push their total to 11 on the day. A consolation run crossed the plate for East Central in the top of the seventh but would prove no use as the game would close on an unassisted ground ball to first. For the second game of the series, the bats started off hot for the Weevils as they scored the first 7 runs in the first two innings. The first inning saw a big home run fromÂ
Chase Cripps over the right field wall, followed by an RBI single fromÂ
Kirk Woolf to bring homeÂ
Cade Cancilla. Cancilla drove in bothÂ
Aidan Garrett andÂ
Parker Dorrance in the second to increase the Monticello lead to 5-0.Â
Camden Tanner increased the total runs to seven on a 2 RBI double to center.Â
Charles Peacock continued to shut the Tigers down, keeping them scoreless as the Weevil offense continued to shine in the 5th.Â
Will Owens drove in two runs with a home run over the right field wall, followed by a couple of RBI singles fromÂ
Roc Hawthorne andÂ
Chaz Poppy and a sac fly from Cancilla.Â
Graham Gonzales andÂ
Chase Cripps drove in the final two runs in the sixth on a pair of singles to push the Boll Weevil lead to 14-0. The Weevils would take game one with a run-rule victory over the Tigers. The final game of the series started slow for the Weevils as they only led through the fourth inning 1-0 thanks to an RBI single fromÂ
Cade Cancilla. The Tigers took the lead from the Monticello in the fifth after an error in the field making the game 2-1. Â
Kirk Woolf launched a three-run home run in the bottom of the 6th to re-claim a 4-2 lead over East Central.Â
Nelson Mercado came in and shut down the Tigers in the final inning after allowing only one hit and one run, resulting in a 4-3 win for UAM.
Connor Irvine,
Charles Peacock, and
Kyle Roop were the winning pitchers in each game respectively, with
Nelson Mercado recording the save in game three.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE WEEVILS
The Weevils took on the Ouachita Baptist Tigers Tuesday in Arkadelphia coming out of Rab Rodgers field with a 7-3 victory.
