MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Blossom basketball team is set to head to the Sooner State, to commence the second half of their season, this weekend for a pair of games versus Southern Nazarene University and Oklahoma Baptist University. Due to current weather conditions in Oklahoma, The Great American Conference, in conjunction with athletic administrators from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, Southern Arkansas University, Southern Nazarene University, and Oklahoma Baptist University, announced changes to the upcoming basketball schedule. The Blossoms will now play a back-to-back 5:30 p.m. games on Friday, January 30, versus Southern Nazarene, and Saturday, January 31, versus Oklahoma Baptist.
LAST MEETING
Southern Nazarene - The Blossoms fell to the Crimson Storm the last time out, 57-74. Arkansas-Monticello opened the first half of the game with an early 5-2 lead; however, Southern Nazarene quickly responded to outscore the Blossoms in the first quarter, 18-11. The second quarter would see the Blossoms and Crimson Storm exchange baskets back-and-forth, with SNU prevailing, 12-11. The teams would head to the locker room at the half with the Blossoms trailing, 30-22. Southern Nazarene carried its momentum into the second half of the matchup, scoring 26 points compared to Arkansas-Monticello's 15. SNU increased its advantage to 19 points, leading 56-37 heading into the final quarter. The Blossoms fought to cut the deficit in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Crimson Storm 20 points to 18. Unfortunately, the effort proved not enough as the Blossoms came up short, concluding the game with a 74-57 loss for UAM.
Brilynn Findley and
Alyssa Batton led the way for Arkansas-Monticello, posting 16 points in the matchup, respectively. Findley hit 5-9 total field goals, one three-pointer, and 5-5 from the free throw line on the afternoon. She also contributed two defensive rebounds in her 35 minutes played, along with two assists. Batton hit 6-10 total field goals, one three-pointer, and 3-3 from the free throw line. She also contributed one offensive rebound in her 31 minutes played, along with two assists and a steal. Arkansas-Monticello committed 19 turnovers in the entirety of the match..
Oklahoma Baptist - Arkansas-Monticello came up just short the last time they played the Bison, 68-68. Arkansas-Monticello won the opening quarter of the game, seeing the Blossoms outscore Oklahoma Baptist, 23-15. The Blossoms shot 10-14 (71.43%) total field goals compared to Oklahoma Baptist shooting 6-17 (35.29%). The Lady Bison flipped the script in their favor, outscoring UAM 19-14 in the second quarter. The teams would head to the locker room at the half with the Blossoms leading, 37-34. The Blossoms and Lady Bison returned from the half, exchanging back-and-forth baskets throughout the third quarter, with Oklahoma Baptist prevailing, 15-12. The teams entered the final quarter of the game tied 49-49. The Lady Bison reclaimed the lead in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Blossoms 19-13. As the time ran out, the Blossoms came up just short, concluding the game with a 68-62 loss for UAM.
Alindsey Long led the way for Arkansas-Monticello posting 20 points in the matchup. Long hit 8-15 total field goals and four three-pointers on the evening. She also contributed three rebounds in her 36 minutes played, along with three assists and a block.
Alyssa Batton was the other Blossom in the double-digits, posting 16 points in the game. Batton went 7-15 on field goals, 1-3 on threes, and 1-2 on free throws, with three rebounds and an assist. Arkansas-Monticello committed 10 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

Southern Nazarene - When the Blossoms take the court Saturday, the tip-off will commence the 27th contest between these two squads dating back to the 1992-93 season. The Blossoms trail the Crimson Storm 9-17. An 84-67 win that occurred on February 25, 2016, still stands as the largest margin of victory for the Blossoms. In Steelman, the Blossoms are 6-7, on the road they are 2-10, and our 8-17 in conference play. Through 26 games, the Blossoms have amassed 1,556 points, with an average of 59.85 per game.
Oklahoma Baptist - Saturdays match will be the 23rd meeting between these two teams, with OBU holding a 14-8 advantage over UAM. The largest margin of victory over OBU happened on February 1, 2020, an 80-30 victory inside Steelman Field House.
