SHAWNEE, Okla. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevil came up just short of taking down the 20th ranked Bison of Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday evening. The Weevils came out of the contest with a 70-60 loss against the Bison.
Isaac Jackson and
Ashton Price led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (8-11, 4-9 GAC), posting 17 points apiece in the game. Jackson hit 6-9 total field goals on the day and 5-6 free throws. He also contributed five total rebounds in his 39 minutes, along with a steal. Price hit 6-11 total field goals on the day and 5-9 free throws. He also contributed five defensive rebounds in his 31 minutes, along with a steal.
Oklahoma Baptist (17-2, 11-2 GAC) was led by
Erik Madrid with 19 points.
The opening half of the game was a battle throughout its entirety. Arkansas-Monticello went basket-for-basket with Oklahoma Baptist, seeing the lead change seven times with six ties. The Bison prevailed, shooting six unanswered points to conclude the half with the Weevils trailing, 31-26.
The second 20-minute period was once again a battle, seeing two lead changes and the score tied twice. Arkansas-Monticello and Oklahoma Baptist exchanged points back-and-forth, tying the game one final time, 43-43, with 12:29 left on the clock. The Bison held control for the remainder of the period, seeing a game-high lead of 20 points. The contest would conclude with a 70-60 loss for UAM.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 14 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
