ALVA, Okla. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevil took on the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday night. The Weevils came out of the contest with a 74-57 loss.
Josh Smith led Arkansas-Monticello (10-16, 6-14 GAC) with 20 points. Smith connected with 6-of-7 field goals on the afternoon, while hitting 8-of-10 shots from the line. He also grabbed four defensive rebounds, blocked one shot, and dished out one assist.
Jakob Zenon and
Ashton Price were the other two Boll Weevils in double-digits on the afternoon, posting 12 and 11 points, respectively. Zenon went 4-for-6 on field goals with three baskets from beyond-the-arc, as well as 1-of-2 free throws. He also grabbed five defensive rebounds and two steals, while blocking a shot and making one assist. Price was 4-for-14 on field goals with a three-pointer, and also hit both free throws on the day. He has three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Northwestern Oklahoma State (11-15, 8-12 GAC) was led by
Max Alexander with 18 points.
The opening half of the game was a back-and-forth battle between the teams. Arkansas-Monticello hit 13-of-30 field goals (43.33%), while Northwestern Oklahoma was 12-for-22 (54.55%). The lead would change six times in the opening 20 minutes before the teams were sent to the locker rooms at the half with NWOSU leading 36-32.
Northwestern Oklahoma held onto control for the remainder of the game, outscoring the Weevils 38-25 in the second half. The game would conclude with a 74-57 loss for UAM.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 15 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
