MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team will officially open its 2026 season on Friday in Hot Springs, Arkansas, against Northwest Missouri State University. The Boll Weevils were supposed to start their season this past weekend in Hot Springs at the Dugan Invitational, but the winter storms altered those plans, pushing their season opener to this weekend. With lingering effects from the storm still impacting Monticello, the Weevils have shifted their weekend weekend series against the Bearcats to Hot Springs, Arkansas, with two days of doubleheaders at Majestic Ballpark. This will be the first time these two teams have competed on a different field, as all six previous meetings took place on Weevils Field in Monticello.
LAST MEETING
Northwest Missouri State -Â The Boll Weevils beat the Bearcats 3-0 the last time out, in February of 2013. In game one, UAM jumped to a quick lead in the first, batting all the way through the lineup, plus three, for eight runs, highlighted by a three-run triple from junior Chad Miller and three consecutive run-producing at-bats from junior D'Marco Poindexter, senior Taylor Eaves, and junior Tyler Caruthers. The Boll Weevils went up 10-0 in the second on a two-RBI double from junior Stephen Martinez before the Bearcats (0-1) reached the board in the top of the third with three runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Brandon Huske. UAM cushioned its lead in the bottom of the fourth by batting through the lineup for the second time for a six-run rally, highlighted by a two-RBI double down the left field line from junior Ben Agredano. The Bearcats added three more runs in the top of the seventh on one swing off the bat of pinch-hitter JJ Baccari, who sent a shot over the right center field fence to trim UAM's lead to 10 runs at 16-6. UAM finalized its scoring with three runs in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI-single from Caruthers, an RBI-double from Agredano, and an RBI-single from junior Ray Johnson. NWMSU added its final run at the top of the ninth on an RBI groundout from Brandon Huske. In game two, the Boll Weevils had to come from behind, holding a 6-1 lead after the first two innings. After scoring one run on a passed ball in the bottom of the first, UAM scored five runs in the second, highlighted by a two-RBI double from senior Taylor Eaves and a two-RBI triple from senior Hunter Allday. The Bearcats (0-3) responded with six unanswered runs over the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a 7-6 lead heading into the final two innings. UAM tied the score at 8-all in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single from junior Tyler Caruthers to score junior D'Marco Poindexter, who walked and moved to third on a single from Eaves. After giving up a pair of doubles in the seventh, UAM senior reliever Brent Noble allowed only one base runner in the final two innings, setting up UAM's chance of winning in the bottom of the ninth. The Boll Weevils did just that. Sophomore designated hitter Bronson Gillam drew a walk to lead off the frame and was replaced on the bases by junior JD Deloach. Junior Ben Agredano sacrificed himself on a bunt to get Deloach into scoring position at second base. Junior Stephen Martinez followed with a game-winning double to left field to score Deloach from third. Noble (2-0) earned the win in relief, allowing just one run off two hits with a walk in the final three innings. Bearcat reliever Carson Smith (0-1) took the loss after allowing the winning run in the ninth. Smith allowed that run off three hits with one walk in 0.2 innings of work. In the third game, UAM used a four-run first inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from senior Danny Loya, to take an early lead. After the Bearcats scored their lone run of the game on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth, UAM answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame, including a bases-loaded walk from Loya and an RBI single from junior Johnny Wolf. UAM added four more runs in the bottom of the eighth to capture the run-rule victory. UAM used an RBI double from Agredano, another bases-loaded walk from Loya, and an RBI single from Wolf to get to double-digits in runs. Â Junior Alex Lang picked up an RBI fielder's choice to end the game on a play that scored Bronson Gillam from third. Wolf and Loya each had impressive performances at the plate. Wolf was a perfect 5-for-5, while Loya went 1-for-3, but picked up a game-high four runs batted in. Taylor Eaves went 3-for-4, and Agredano went 2-for-4.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Northwest Missouri State - The Boll Weevils are currently 3-3 all-time with the Bearcats, dropping the first three meetings in 2008 (2-5, 4-15, 5-7). The remaining three games saw the Weevils place wins in the column (19-7, 11-1 (8 innings), 8-7). The Weevils' largest margin of victory came in 2013, with a 19-7 win over Northwest. Through six meetings, the Weevils have amassed 49 runs, averaging 8.17 runs per game.
