MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team hosted the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State University at Steelman Field House Thursday evening for a GAC meeting. The Blossoms put up a hard fight but came out of the contest with a 57-52 loss.
Alindsey Long led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (6-14, 1-13 GAC), posting 14 points in the matchup. Long hit 6-13 total field goals and two three-pointers on the evening. She also contributed one defensive rebound in her 36 minutes played, along with three assists and three steals.
Alyssa Batton followed close behind in the double-digits, scoring 12 points of her own. Batton hit 4-15 field goals, two three-pointers, and 2-2 from the line while grabbing three defensive rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
Southeastern Oklahoma (9-11, 6-8 GAC) was led by
Tori Kilburn with 22 points.
The opening quarter of the game saw Arkansas-Monticello go basket-for-basket with Southeastern Oklahoma, with the Blossoms down by three, 10-7. The second quarter saw the Blossoms flip the script in their favor, scoring 16 points in comparison to the Savage Storm's 12. The teams would head to the locker room at the half with the Blossoms up by one, 23-22.
Arkansas-Monticello carried their momentum into the second half of the game, outscoring Southeastern Oklahoma 22-13 in the third quarter. UAM increased their advantage to 10 points, leading 45-35. The Blossoms struggled to keep up with the Savage Storm's offense in the fourth quarter, as UAM was held to single digits, 22-7. The Savage Storm scored nine unanswered points as time ran out, concluding the matchup with a 57-52 loss for the Blossoms.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 15 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
