MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team hosted the Tigers of East Central University at Steelman Field House Saturday afternoon for a GAC meeting. The Blossoms came out of the contest with a 65-48 loss.
Opal Hardy led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (6-15, 1-14 GAC), posting 11 points in the matchup. Hardy hit 5-9 total field goals and 1-2 free throws on the afternoon. She also contributed five defensive rebounds in her 28 minutes played, along with a block and a steal.
East Central (11-8, 7-8 GAC) was led by
Katie Edelen with 19 points.
Arkansas-Monticello opened the first quarter of the game with an early 7-3 lead over East Central. The Tigers flipped the script in their favor with 04:18 remaining on the clock, scoring seven unanswered points to gain control of the matchup, leading by five, 19-14. The second quarter would see the Blossoms and Tigers exchange baskets, with ECU prevailing, 19-11. The teams would head to the locker room at the half with the Blossoms trailing, 38-25.
The second half of the matchup was once again a battle between Arkansas-Monticello and East Central. The third quarter saw the Tigers score 19 points in comparison to the Blossom's 16, increasing their advantage to 16 points. The Tigers did not falter, keeping the Blossoms at bay, 8-7, in the final quarter of the game. Unfortunately, the matchup concluded with a 65-48 loss for the Blossoms.
Arkansas-Monticello committed nine turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms will travel to Russellville, Arkansas, to take on the Golden Suns in a rescheduled match at 5:30 p.m. Monday, February 9.
