Blossoms Fall to Golden Suns in Monday Night Thriller

RUSSELLVILLE Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team traveled to Arkansas Tech University Monday evening to take on the Golden Suns. The Monday night meeting was a make up for the postponed January 25 game. The Blossoms mounted a comeback but fell 75-69 to the Golden Suns. 

Jena Warden led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (6-16, 1-15 GAC), posting 21 points in the matchup. Warden hit 7-15 total field goals, one three-pointer, and 6-7 free throws on the evening. She also contributed six total rebounds in her 34 minutes played, along with two assists, a steal, and a block.

Taleigha Ealy followed behind in the double digits, scoring 13 points of her own. Ealy hit 6-13 field goals and 1-2 from the line while grabbing 12 total rebounds and a steal.

Alindsey Long saw 10 points posted on the evening as the final Blossom in the double-digits. Long hit 4-12 field goals, one three-pointer, and 1-2 free throws, along with three defensive rebounds, and an assist. 

Arkansas Tech (17-3, 13-3 GAC) was led by Logan Young with 20 points.

Arkansas-Monticello struggled offensively through the opening quarter of the game, falling to Arkansas Tech 23-12. The second quarter saw the Blossoms and Golden Suns exchange baskets back-and-forth, with ATU prevailing in the end, outscoring the Blossoms 20-19, increasing their advantage to 12. The teams would head to the locker room at the half with the Blossoms trailing, 43-31.

Arkansas-Monticello returned from the half, driven to cut Golden Sun's lead, scoring 21 points compared to the Arkansas Tech's 19. The Golden Suns kept their advantage to 10 points, leading 62-52 heading into the final quarter. The Blossoms once again outscored the Golden Suns in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to six points. As the time ran out, UAM came up just short, concluding the game with a 75-69 loss.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 15 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
