MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevil baseball team is gearing up to head to Alva, Oklahoma, on Friday, March 20, and Saturday. March 21 for a three-game GAC series with the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The series will feature a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, followed by a solo matchup on Saturday at noon.

LAST MEETING
The Boll Weevils went 4-0 against the Rangers last season. The 2025 season saw UAM take the conference series in a sweep, 4-3 (10 innings), 8-2, 13-2, before both teams met each other in the GAC postseason, which saw the Weevils best NWOSU in an elimination game, 13-5, in Enid, Oklahoma, at the David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

GAC 2025 Postseason - The Weevils opened the scoring in the first inning when Roc Hawthorne crossed the plate on a double play ball. The Rangers tied it in the second, capitalizing on a throwing error. NWOSU took a 2-1 lead in the fourth with an RBI double by Trevor Saire. UAM responded in the fifth as Kirk Woolf launched a three-run homer to right, putting the Weevils ahead 4-2. The offense surged again in the sixth with an RBI single from Cade Cancilla, followed by a three-run blast from Hawthorne, extending the lead to 8-2. The Rangers trimmed the deficit to 8-4 in the seventh, but UAM answered in the bottom half with a two-run homer by Justin Santoyo. After NWOSU added an unearned run in the eighth, the Weevils capped their scoring with a three-run eighth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Logan Jones. Connor Irvine recorded the win on the mound for the Weevils, pitching 6.1 innings while allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits. He struck out six, walked three, and threw 102 pitches.

2025 Series - Northwestern Oklahoma was the first on the board in game one, scoring a run in both the third and fourth innings on RBI singles. Chaz Poppy drove in Kirk Woolf on a single to left for UAM's first run of the game in the fourth. Justin Santoyo tied the score at 2-2 in the sixth on an RBI of his own. A bases-loaded walk in the seventh once again gave the Rangers a 3-2 advantage. The Boll Weevils drove in the tying run in the bottom of the ninth, scoring Logan Jones on a sacrifice fly from Roc Hawthorne. Cade Cancilla drove in the winner in the tenth, resulting in a 4-3 win for UAM. The Boll Weevils scored three runs in the bottom of the first in game two, with Roc Hawthorne crossing the plate first on a throwing error from the catcher after stealing third. The second and third runs were plated from bases-loaded walks. Northwestern Oklahoma responded in the second with a run scored on a double play ball. Hawthorne touched home for a second time in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch to make it a 4-1 ball game. Logan Jones grabbed two RBI in the third on a triple to center field. He was brought home by Hawthorne on a line drive. Cade Cancilla drove in the final run for UAM on a double down the right field line in the fifth to increase the Boll Weevil lead to 8-1. The Rangers found three runs in the seventh, but saw the effort fall flat as the doubleheader closed with two wins for UAM. To begin game three, Chase Cripps put UAM up 3-0 in the first with a three-run bomb to right-center. Chaz Poppy and Kirk Woolf were brought home on the drive. Northwestern Oklahoma scored its only two runs of the ball game in the third. The Boll Weevils would score 10 runs between the third and eighth innings. Kirk Woolf brought home Roc Hawthorne in the third, and Cade Cancilla drove in Justin Santoyo in the fourth to increase the lead to 5-2. Camden Tanner drove in Aidan Garrett on a double in the seventh. Chaz Poppy followed up with another double to right center, scoring two runs on the play. Aidan Garrett increased the lead to 11-2 in the eighth on a home run to left field. Kirk Woolf would end the game on a walk-off home run to run-rule the Rangers 13-2 and secure the series sweep. Nelson Mercado, Maxim Mrakovcic, and Bryce Louis were the respective winning pitchers of each game of the series for the Boll Weevils.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Arkansas-Monticello holds the winning record over the Rangers, 26-14, which dates back to the first meeting on February 15, 2013, an 8-6 win for the Weevils. 39 of the 40 meetings have taken place in either Monticello or Alva, Oklahoma, with the Weevils standing at a 15-2 record at Union Bank Park and a 10-12 record at Glass Family Field at Myers Stadium. The lone neutral-site game came in 2025, when the Weevils held off the Rangers in an elimination game of the GAC postseason tournament in Enid, Oklahoma. The Weevils' largest margin of victory currently stands at 17-2, achieved on April 14, 2023. Combined across the 40 games, the Boll Weevils have plated 310 runs at home, averaging 7.75 runs per game.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE WEEVILS
The Weevils played to extra innings on Tuesday, March 17, against the Buccaneers of Christian Brothers University. The men in green and white came out of the contest with a 4-3 win in the bottom of the 11th as Kyle Tolley sent a shot down the left field line to plate Jackson Riedling.
