MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevil baseball is back on Weevils Field at Union Bank Park for a three-game stand with the Bisons of Harding University. The series commences on Friday, March 27 with a 6:00 p.m. first pitch, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m.
LAST MEETING
The Weevils went 2-1 in Searcy last season, taking down the Bison, 1-7, 10-1, 5-4 (13 inns.). The Bisons homered in the bottom of the first to add the first run of the game to the scoreboard. Harding would make it 2-0 in the third off a single to right center, and 4-0 in the fifth via a single to right field. The Boll Weevils put the lone digit on their portion of the board in the sixth as
Roc Hawthorne stole third and reached home on a muffed throw by the third baseman. Harding would put the game out of reach from the Weevils as they placed three more runs home in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of a double to right field, a stolen third base/ muffed throw, and a home run. Sealing the game 7-1.
Justin Santoyo kicked off the scoring for the Weevils in the second game, scoring
Camden Tanner in the first on a single to right field. The Bisons would score their lone run of the game off a home run in the third. The Weevils brought three more runs in the fifth as
Kirk Woolf crossed on a bases-loaded walk, Tanner reached home for the second time via a throwing error from the Harding, and Santoyo made it home as
Chase Cripps doubled down the left field line. Arkansas-Monticello added the commanding cushion runs in the sixth as four Weevils found their way to home plate. Santoyo would once again provide the opportunity for Tanner to cross, Cripps again scored Santoyo,
Aidan Garrett plated Cripps, and
Roc Hawthorne would close out the scoring, bringing in Garrett. The final two runs in the eighth would be the last, as the game would come to a close in the ninth, 10-1 for UAM. The Boll Weevils would once again kick off the scoring in what would prove to be an epic game as
Logan Jones crossed home in the third off
Kirk Woolf's single to left,
Roc Hawthorne was plated on a ground out, and Woolf would round home as
Chaz Poppy singled to left. A fourth run for Monticello would come off the bat of
Roc Hawthorne as he drove a ball over the right field wall. Harding would add three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game 4-4. Stretching past the originally scheduled seven innings to the 13th,
Kyle Tolley found his way home from second as
Camden Tanner singled to right field. The Weevils would seal the game, 5-4, and series, 2-1, in the bottom of the 13th.
Maxim Mrakovcic pitched all 9.0 innings of game two for the Boll Weevils, allowing one run on 12 hits and striking out five batters to secure the win, while
Trey Miller earned the win on the mound in game three, after pitching 2.0 innings, striking out four.
