Weevils Drop Series Opener to Wonder Boys in Extras

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Baseball team continued its stretch of road games Friday evening in Russellville, Arkansas, taking on the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech University. A late comeback surge from the Weevils proved not enough as they fell to ATU 11-10 in extras.

Scoring Recap:
UAM struck first, scoring a run in the top of the first off a groundball from Eli Marvin. The Wonder Boys responded with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Darcy Barry drove in two runs in the third on a ground ball through the six-hole. The Weevils found themselves down 7-3.

Arkansas Tech grabbed three more in the fourth on extra base hitting and a sacrifice fly.

The Weevils scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, with Daniel Lizarraga kicking off the scoring with a solo home run to left center. Jackson Riedling drove in Elijah Olaybal on a single through the four-hole, followed by a third run on a sac fly from Kyle Tolley. ATU scored a run in the bottom of the fifth before the Weevil offense erupted again in the sixth. Riedling drove in two on a single, and Barry brought home UAM's ninth run on a sac fly.

Kyle Tolley brought Arkansas-Monticello within one with a solo home run in the seventh, and Eli Marvin tied the game at 11-11 in the eighth with a solo home run of his own.

The game would go into extra innings, where Tech drove in the winning run in the tenth. Final score, 12-11.

Pitching Performances:
- Tyler Bribiescas started on the mound for UAM, tossing 1.0 inning with 7 ER on 6 hits, 1 BB, and 1 HBP
- Bryce Louis grabbed 2.1 innings with 3 ER on 4 hits with 4 BB, 2 SO, and 1 HBP
- Alberto Oropeza totaled 1.2 innings with 1 ER on 1 hit. He struck out 2 batters and walked 1
- Tyler Vincent had 0.2 inning, allowing 0 ER on 2 hits, 2 SO, and 1 BB
- Nathan McManus saw 2.1 innings with 0 ER, 0 hits allowed, 1 SO, and 1 BB
