MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team concludes its two-week road trip Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, in Durant, Oklahoma, against the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Weevils will open GAC play on Friday with a 3:00 p.m. first pitch, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
LAST MEETING
The Boll Weevils secured a series win over the Storm in 2025, going 2-1, 9-12, 19-9 (7 innings), and 15-3. In game one, Southeastern was the first team on the board, scoring a single run in the first on an opposite-field home run. The Boll Weevils responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, scoring the first on an RBI double from
Chaz Poppy to right center. The second run came on a sacrifice fly from
Camden Tanner. UAM saw
Roc Hawthorne and
Kirk Woolf plate the runs. Three runs were scored in the second by the Savage Storm. The first two were brought home on a home run to left center, and the third was plated on a groundout to short. Hawthorne drove in
Aidan Garrett in the bottom of the inning to make it a 4-3 game. A third home run of the ball game for Southeastern pushed the lead to 6-3 for the Savage Storm. Southeastern tacked on four more in the fourth, scoring the first on a double to left field. The second run came on a single to left and the third on an RBI ground out. The final run of the inning was an RBI single to center field, making it a 10-3 game. The Savage Storm led off the top of the sixth with a moonshot to left field. The solo shot pushed the lead to 11-3 for SE.
Elijah Nichols ended the drought for UAM in the bottom of the inning, launching a home run over the wall in center field. The inning came to a close with Southeastern leading 11-4. Southeastern saw its fourth home run of the afternoon in the eighth, clearing the scoreboard to make it a 12-4 game.
Kyle Tolley drove in a run in the bottom of the inning on a single up the middle.
Chaz Poppy followed with a two-out, bases-loaded double off the wall in left field, scoring three runs on the drive.
Justin Santoyo drove in Poppy for the fifth run of the inning on a double down the right-field line. The inning would close with UAM trailing 12-9. The late effort proved not enough, as game one concluded with a 12-9 loss for UAM. Game two saw the Savage Storm score four runs in the first, plating the first of the game on an RBI single up the middle. The remaining three runs crossed the plate on a three-run home run to center field. UAM responded with four runs between the bottom of the first and second, scoring two runs in each inning.
Justin Santoyo drove in the first on a single through the four-hole, followed by a sacrifice fly from
Camden Tanner. The second inning saw
Roc Hawthorne drive in run number three on a double to center, and the fourth scored on a ground ball from
Chaz Poppy. Southeastern put up another run in the third on a solo home run to right. The Storm scored three more in the fourth on a two-run home run and a double to left center. Santoyo made it an 8-6 ball game in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run shot to right center.
Kirk Woolf wore a pitch with the bases loaded to score the seventh run for UAM.
Chaz Poppy followed up with a grand slam over the left field wall to reclaim the lead, 11-8. The Storm saw its ninth, and final, run at the top of the sixth. The run was scored on a fly ball to right. The final game of the series saw UAM secure the series win, 15-3.
Trey Miller and
Dylan Vail saw the wins on the rubber in games two and three, respectively.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Weevils lead the all-time series 36-10, dating back to February 24, 2003, the first meeting between the squads, which saw the Boll Weevils lose 1-10. Since then, the two teams have met 46 times, with the Weevils scoring 368 runs, averaging 8 per game. The largest margin of victory is 15-3, set in 2025 in Durant. The Weevils are 15-7 at home, 13-2 on the road, and 30-8 in conference play.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE WEEVILS
The men in green and white fell Tuesday evening in the final non-conference meeting of the season with Delta State University. Tied 6-6 heading into the top of the 11, UAM took the lead by one, but fell in a two-run walk-off from the Statesmen, 8-7, in the bottom of the inning.
