MONROE, La. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team suffered a 75-48 loss to NCAA Division I Louisiana-Monroe Saturday at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
The Cotton Blossoms (3-5) were led by junior Channon Haywood, who finished with a game-high nine points and nine rebounds. All nine of her points came at the free-throw line, where she was 9-of-11. The St. Louis, Mo. native was 0-of-5 from the field.
Juniors Jerica Hubbard and Jasmine Rush trailed Haywood with eight points each.
The Warhawks (6-4) were led by Kassie Courtney, Priscilla Mbiandja, Alexar Tugler and Jordan Rawson. All four finished the game with eight points.
In the first half, UAM had a slow start, not scoring a field goal until the 7:21 mark on a layup from junior Alex Hart to give ULM a 26-7 lead.
The Cotton Blossoms had a pair of layups in the final minute of the half to set the halftime score of 40-21 in favor of the Warhawks.
The shooting woes continued for UAM in the second half, knocking down 6-of-27 shots for 22 percent. Overall for the game, UAM shot 25 percent from the field (12-of-49), 14 percent from three-point range (3-of-21) and 68 percent from the foul line (21-of-31).
The Cotton Blossoms return to action next weekend (December 17-18) for Gulf South Conference Crossover games against West Alabama (12/17 – 5:30 p.m) and West Georgia (12/18 – 2:00 p.m.) at home.
