RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – No. 4 Arkansas Tech gave the University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team its first Gulf South Conference loss of the season with a final score of 89-46 on Saturday at Tucker Coliseum.
With the loss, the Cotton Blossoms drop to 6-9 overall and 2-1 in the Gulf South Conference, while the Golden Suns improve to 14-1 and 3-0.
ATU’s scoring output was highlighted by a 46-point effort in the paint and 56 percent field goal shooting, while holding the Cotton Blossoms to a season-low 23.6 percent shooting output from the field.
UAM also struggled from three-point range, making only 2-of-27 attempts, one in each half.
Junior Alex Hart led UAM with 16 points on 4-of-12 shooting, while junior Channon Haywood also reached double-digits with 11 points.
ATU had five players with at least 10 points, led by Natalia Santos’ game-high 19 points. Jessica Weatherford had 12, while Jenny Vining, Shaquilah Davis and Samantha Ludwig all added 10 points. Weatherford added a game-high 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
The Cotton Blossoms return to action on Thursday, January 20 in Searcy, Ark. against the Harding University Lady Bisons. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Rhodes Field House.
