DAVIS HAS CAREER-HIGH 17 POINTS IN LOSS TO OBU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Senior Alayna Davis scored a career-high 17 points for the University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team in a 71-57 loss to Ouachita Baptist on Saturday at Bill Vining Arena.

Davis tied OBU’s A’Laeshia Adams for the game-high in scoring after making 8-of-14 shots from the field, including one three-pointer. The Gonzales, La. native also added five rebounds and a blocked shot to her final totals.

The Cotton Blossoms (6-18, 2-10 Gulf South Conference) shot 27 percent in the first half, allowing the Lady Tigers (18-6, 9-3 GSC) to take an early lead. OBU stretched its lead to double-digits in the first six minutes, and reached its largest lead of the opening half of 18 points on three different occasions.

UAM found consistency in the final six minutes of the first half, using a 14-4 scoring run to cut OBU’s lead back to single-digits with 1:58 left in the period. The Lady Tigers scored the final four points of the half to take a 13-point lead of 34-21 at the break.

In the second half, UAM came out on fire with a 10-run to cut OBU’s lead to three-points at 34-31 less than three minutes into the period. The Cotton Blossoms cut that lead to two-points two minutes later on a layup from Davis.

The Lady Tigers responded with a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to get back on top by a double-digit advantage, which they stretched to 15 with 3:55 left in regulation, their largest lead of the half.

In addition to Davis’ point total, junior Channon Haywood and sophomore LaChasity Seale also reached double-digits for UAM with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Including Adams’ 17-points, OBU placed four scorers in double-digits. Domino Miller had 13, Gabby Coleman had 12, and Beulah Osueke had 11.

The Cotton Blossoms finished the contest shooting 38.6 percent from the field (22-of-57), 17 percent on three-pointers (2-of-12) and 69 percent on foul shots (11-of-16). The Lady Tigers shot 43 percent from the field (23-of-53), 46 percent on three-pointers (6-of-13) and 56 percent on foul shots (19-of-34).

UAM returns to action Thursday, February 24 against Southern Arkansas for the final home game of the season. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
