BLOSSOMS CLOSE 2013 WITH 57-POINT WIN

MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team eclipsed the 100-point mark for the first time in third-year head coach Tanya Ray's career in a 101-44 victory over Crowley's Ridge College on Saturday at home.

The Blossoms (5-4) limited to Lady Pioneers to just 13 made field goals in the game and took advantage of CRC's miscues for 45 points off the Lady Pioneers' 36 turnovers. UAM also dominated the paint 52-14 and received 47 points from its bench.

UAM held CRC to single-digit points throughout the first 11 minutes of the game, building as much as a 22-point lead with at the 10:06 mark. The Blossoms led by as much as 37 points in the first half after using an 18-0 run in the final four minutes of the opening period. UAM's lead grew to 40 points at the 17:56 mark of the first half on a three-pointer from sophomore Tamia Grady.

The Blossoms used a 17-2 scoring run to eclipse the 50-point lead mark with 13:48 remaining. The team's largest and final margin came with 1:33 remaining in the contest on a jumper from junior Monique Biggins.

UAM finished the game shooting 47 percent from the field (36-for-77), 50 percent on three-pointers (5-for-10) and 83 percent on foul shots (24-for-29). The Lady Pioneers finished at 31 percent from the field (13-for-42), 12 percent on three-pointers (2-for-16) and 57 percent on foul shots (16-for-28).

Sophomore Nikki Mullen led all scorers with 19 points in only 20 minutes of action. The Green Forest, Ark. native was 8-for-10 from the field, and also added five rebounds, five assists and five steals in the win. Biggins and freshman Vivianna Carter each scored 13 points, sophomore Donlicia James added 11 and Grady and sophomore Jordan Goforth each had 10 points.

UAM had 23 steals in Saturday's victory, seven shy of the school's all-time record. The Blossoms finished the game with 25 assists to 15 turnovers and outrebounded CRC 47-32.

Hanna Kirk and Jordan Shelton led the Lady Pioneers with 10 points each.

The Blossoms break for the holidays and return to action on January 2 at home against East Central in Great American Conference competition. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
