MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team posted a season-low shooting percentage in a 79-54 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State at home on Thursday night in Great American Conference action.

The Cotton Blossoms (4-15, 2-12 GAC) shot just above 30 percent from the field in the first half, but were limited to just eight made field goals in the second half to give the team a final total of 27.7 percent (18-of-65).

On the other end, Southeastern (8-12, 6-8 GAC) hovered around the 50 percent mark for the entire game and nearly doubled UAM’s point production in the second half to allow for the final 25-point differential.

The Savage Storm led from the tip and jumped out to a double-digit lead at the 12:59 mark of the opening period. Southeastern grew its lead to as much as 20 points in the first half at the 9:40 mark, before UAM used a 21-7 scoring run over the next six minutes to trim the deficit to just six points with 3:07 left.

The Savage Storm recaptured its double-digit lead on the first possession of the second half, and held onto that double-digit advantage for the remainder of regulation. Southeastern led by as much as 28 points in the final minute of the game after outscoring UAM 40-24 in the final 20 minutes.

Freshman Jordan Goforth led the Blossoms with her 13th game of the season to reach double-digits in scoring. Goforth went 6-for-17 from the field, 2-of-7 on three-pointers and 1-for-1 at the foul line.

Southeastern’s Haley Schaeffer, Bailey Welch and Ronay English all tied for the game-high with 15 points each.

The Cotton Blossoms are back in action on Saturday, February 9 at home against East Central. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
