MONTICELLO – Sophomore Tamia Grady had 22 points to lead the University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team in a 75-61 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday at home.
The Blossoms (5-6, 1-4 Great American Conference) held a lead as much as four points midway through the first half, but a four minute stretch without a made field goal sent the Savage Storm (7-3, 4-0 GAC) into the locker room at thebreak with a 39-25 lead. Southeastern nearly doubled UAM's field goal total in the first half at 17-9 made shots.
In the second half, UAM responded by shooting 42 percent from the field andheld Southeastern to 39 percent and one fewer field goal, but Southeastern's performance in the paint and resulting higher field goal percentage were too much to overcome. The Savage Storm had 42 of its 75 points scored from inside the paint.
UAM scored the final nine points of the game to pull the margin below 20 points at the end of regulation. All but two points of that 9-0 run was scored by sophomore Nikki Mullen.
The Blossoms finished the game shooting 36 percent from the field (21-for-58), 25 percent on three-pointers (4-for-16) and 83 percent on foul shots (15-for-18). Southeastern shot 45 percent from the field (28-for-62), 27 percent on three-pointers (3-for-11) and 84 percent on foul shots (16-for-19).
Other than Grady's game-high 22 points, Mullen finished the game with 13 points and sophomore Jordan Goforth added 12. Southeastern was led by Madison Thames' 12 points off the bench.
The Blossoms are back in action on Thursday, January 9 at Southern Nazarene. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Bethany, Okla.
