BLOSSOMS FALL TO CRIMSON STORM ON THE ROAD

BETHANY, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team was unable to overcome its worst shooting performance of the season in a 72-61 loss to Southern Nazarene on the road Thursday night.

UAM (5-7, 1-5 Great American Conference) scored the game's first five points and led for the first seven minutes of the first half. SNU (6-6, 3-3 GAC) took its first lead of the game following a 7-0 run to put the Storm on top 11-8 at the 11:41 mark.

SNU stretched that to a 10-point lead with 7:06 remaining in the half afterholding the Blossoms to no made field goals during a period of nearly 12 minutes.

The Crimson Storm led by as much as 11 points in the final minute of the opening period after a 7-2 scoring run over the previous three minutes. TheStorm led 34-26 at the break.

The Blossoms shot 23 percent from the field in the first half, but doubled their field goal total in the second half and shot 34 percent. The team finished the game with a new season-low of 30 percent from the field (19-for-64).  

The Crimson Storm capitalized on UAM's poor shooting percentage by regaining a double-digit lead three minutes into the second half and maintaining that double-digit advantage until the final three minutes of the game, when UAM posted an 11-2 scoring run to trim the deficit to six points with just under two minutes remaining.

Both teams were held scoreless until the 35-second mark, when SNU's Kristin Milster started a stretch of five free throws made out of six attempts for the Storm in the remainder of the contest.

The sophomore trio of Jordan Goforth, Nikki Mullen and Tamia Grady led the Blossoms in scoring with 15, 14 and 12 points respectively. Sophomore Donlicia James added eight points in 14 minutes off the bench.

SNU finished the game shooting 46 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free-throw line.  Kristin Milster and Aminata Fall led the Storm with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Fall added 19 rebounds, six assists and six blocked shots to her final totals.

The Blossoms are back in action next Thursday, January 16 on the road against Arkansas Tech. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.
