The East Central Lady Tigers took advantage of its home court and tallied twice as many made field goals to defeat the University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball by a final score of 70-51 on Saturday afternoon.

East Central (15-6, 10-5 Great American Conference) held UAM to just five made field goals in the second half after limiting the Blossoms to nine in the first half.

After trailing by 11 points at halftime, UAM (5-16, 1-14 GAC) was unable to trim its deficit back to single digits throughout the final 20 minutes. ECU reached its largest lead of 19 points in the final minute of regulation.

East Central had 10 more total shots than UAM in the first 20 minutes and converted on at a 43 percent clip. UAM made 36 percent of its shots in the first half.

ECU was the first to create separation in the first half with a 7-2 run to take a six-point lead at the 11:54 mark. UAM answered with a 6-2 run to get to within two points at the 8:22 mark on a jumper from senior Raija McWright. Sophomore Nikki Mullen nailed a three-pointer on UAM's next possession to trim ECU's lead to just one point at 17-16 with 7:52 remaining.

The Lady Tigers closed out the final four minutes of the first half outscoring UAM 11-4 to hold an 11-point lead of 36-25 at the break.

UAM finished the game shooting 33 percent from the field (14-for-43), 29 percent on three-pointers (2-for-7) and 68 percent on foul shots (21-for-31). The Lady Tigers shot 49 percent from the field (29-for-59), 38 percent on three-pointers (6-for-16) and 67 percent on foul shots (6-for-9).

UAM sophomore Nikki Mullen led all scorers with 19 points on a 5-for-7 shooting performance, including UAM's only two made three-pointers on four attempts. Junior Brandae Carroll also reached double digits with 10 points.

Taylor Fischer led the Lady Tigers with 17 points.

The Blossoms return home for four out its final five contests of the regular season, starting next Saturday, February 15 against Southern Nazarene. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
