JONESBORO, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team opened its 2016-17 season Tuesday night with a 73-55 exhibition loss against Arkansas State University.
The Blossoms began the first half against the Red Wolves only trailing the Sun Belt Conference member 32-19 after shooting 25.8 percent from the field. ASU led as much as 20 points in the third quarter but a 13-7 run by the Blossoms midway through the fourth quarter cut the A-State lead down to only 12 points. Arkansas State closed out the match-up over the visiting Blossoms however with a 73-55 victory.
Final team statistics on the night for Arkansas-Monticello included shooting 34 percent from the field (22-for-65), 24 percent on three-pointers (5-for-21) and 46 percent on foul shots (6-for-13). The Red Wolves ended the match-up at 41 percent from the field (26-for-64), nine percent on treys (1-for-11) and 71 percent on foul shots (20-for-28).
Sophomore Ayesha Wahid led the UAM offensive attack in the game with 14 total points and five rebounds. Wahid also recorded two steals and knocked down two three-pointers in the match-up as well.
Junior Treasure Evans finished the contest in double figures, totaling 12 points and shot 5-for-10 from the field. Regerina Baker led the Blossoms on the glass with seven total boards and Mia Hayes totaled six steals in the contest as well.
UAM will take to the court next on Friday, November 11 as the Blossoms host Christian Brothers University in a non-conference match-up inside Steelman Field House with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m.
