@UAMWBB FALLS IN EXHIBITION AGAINST ARKANSAS STATE

JONESBORO, Ark. —
 The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team began the 2017-18 season Thursday night with an 83-52 exhibition loss against Arkansas State University on the road in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

  • Brittnee Broadway:  15 points, 7-10 FT, 6 rebounds, 2 assists
  • Taylor Collins: 8 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal
  • Mackenzie Johnson:  8 points, 4-4 FT, 5 rebounds, 1 block
  • Briana Hayles:  7 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist

  • Arkansas State built a 13-5 lead midway through the opening quarter, but multiple free-throws from Brittnee Broadway, and a layup from Charlynn Perry helped cut the Red Wolves lead down to just 16-10 by the end of the period.

  • Taylor Collins knocked down a three-pointer to begin the second quarter to cut the ASU lead to down to just three points. 
  • The Red Wolves began to generate small runs throughout the remainder of the period to see its lead jump into double digits, and went on to hold a 37-27 advantage over UAM at the half.

  • The Blossoms cut the ASU lead down to just six points to begin the second half of play after a layup by Juanisha Young, and a made jumper from Briana Hayles put the score at 37-31 in favor of ASU.
  • Arkansas State quickly saw that lead jump out to 20 points with 4:08 left in the third quarter, and would ultimately hold a 62-44 lead over the Blossoms at the end of the period.

  • The Red Wolves continued to control the pace of the game in the final quarter of play, as ASU never let its lead drop below 19 points for the remainder of the match-up and sealed the exhibition off with a win at 83-52 over UAM.

  • Arkansas-Monticello will officially kick-off the new season on Friday, November 10 in the GAC/MIAA Challenge against Lincoln University in St. Charles, Missouri with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
