Blossoms Lose Battle With the Reddies

The UAM Women's Basketball Team Falls to Henderson State University in their Great American Conference Match-Up on Saturday, 68-58

MONTICELLO, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's basketball teams played their Great American Conference home opener on Saturday. The Blossoms played a nail biter of a game against Henderson State, but eventually fell 68-58.

The Blossoms were quick to jump ahead in the first quarter, quickly earning themselves an 8-4 lead halfway through the quarter. The Reddies were quick to score and bring the deficit down. Both the Blossoms and the Reddies refused to let the other pull ahead by more than 3 points for the remainder of the quarter. Trinity McDowell was a major momentum for the Blossoms as they were 7-18 for field goals and 0-2 on shots beyond the arc. The quarter came to an end with the Reddies on top, 19-16.

The second quarter started out very slow, as there was only 10 points scored combined between the two within the first 6 minutes. The Blossoms would gain back the lead for a brief moment within this time frame, as Bailey Harris and Madison Weydert would give UAM multiple field goals. The Reddies would take back the lead as the quarter continued. The two teams would head to the locker room scoring a combined 28 points on the quarter, with the overall score, 36-27.

Both teams came out of the for the second half hungry. The Blossoms struggled to find the net regardless of how many shots they put up, going 6-18 on field goals in the quarter. The two went into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter showed a massive shift in momentum as UAM turned the tables on the Reddies, outscoring them by 13 points. The two teams would continue their conference battle, HSU proving to have the match go their way as they would win the game 68-58 and the Blossoms fall to 0-16 on the season with na 0-10 record in conference play.

Shania Smith and Chaney Scott also contributed 8 and 7 points for the Blossoms.

Defensively, the Blossoms registered 6 steals and 3 blocks, while forcing HSU into 14 turnovers.

UP NEXT

UAM will be back in action Saturday Jan. 20th at Steelman Field House as they play Southern Nazarene University. The game is set to start at 5:30 PM.
