Box Score MAGNOLIA, Ark.– The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women's Basketball team traveled to Magnolia, Arkansas to open up their 2023-24 season at the GAC/MIAA Challenge, hosted by Southern Arkansas University. On day two the Blossoms took on the Newman University Jets and came out with a 69-48 win to close out the tournament.
Bailey Harris led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (1-1) with 16 points, going 6-13 on shots in the two-point range, 2-4 from beyond the arc, and 2-4 on free throws. She also contributed nine rebounds on the night, with four offensive and five defensive, and a steal in her 29 minutes played.
Haleigh Crews was the second Blossom in double digits on the night, posting 10 points of her own, hitting 2-6 field goals and 6-10 free throws. She also gave UAM three rebounds and an assist.
Newman University (0-2) was led by
Valerija Liokina with 10 points.
The first quarter began with the Blossoms scoring the first points of the game on a three pointer from
Bailey Harris. UAM came out 7-18 for field goals and 1-8 on three pointers. The Blossoms held the lead for the entirety of the first quarter, going into the second ten minutes up 18-12.
The second quarter was once again led by Arkansas-Monticello as they out scored the Jets 21-13. The Blossoms made 62% of their field goals throughout the second 10 minutes. The teams would finish the half and head to the locker rooms with the Blossoms still on top, 39-25.
The third quarter was the lowest scoring of the game with combined score of 22 points combined between both teams. UAM went 3-16 on field goals and 8-12 on free throws.
The fourth quarter consisted of an intense battle between the two teams, this quarter being the closest in points overall. The match would eventually come to an end with the Blossoms on top, 69-48. The Blossoms finish out their opening weekend with a 1-1 record on the season.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 18 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms return to Steelman Fieldhouse on Tuesday, November 14 for the 2023-24 home opener against Crowley's Ridge College. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
