SAN ANGELO, Texas - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team opened its 2025 campaign on Friday in San Angelo, Texas at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational. The Blossoms dropped both matches to start the season.
The University of Arkansas-Monticello volleyball team dropped a three-set match to #2 Angelo State, 25-9, 25-8, 25-14, before dropping their match with Colorado Mesa, 3-0.
UAM was held to a -.024 hitting percentage on 34 digs, 15 assists, 2 blocks, and 15 kills in match one, and -.037 hitting percentage on 49 digs, 18 assists, 5 blocks, 1 ace, and 19 kills in match two.
UAM vs. #2 ASU
FIRST SET (25-9 ASU, ASU leads 1-0)
The opening set began with Angelo State taking a quick 8-2 lead, but a service error and a bad set from the Rambelles put Arkansas-Monticello within reach. ASU responded with seven points to push them into a 15-5 advantage. The Belles controlled the remainder of the set, sealing the deal with another 3-0 rally, to win 25-9.
SECOND SET (25-8 ASU, ASU leads 2-0)
In set two, the Blossoms continued struggling to produce momentum, falling 15-5, early. The Blossoms were held to only three more points and couldn't hold on for the remainder of the match. The Rambelles would take set two 25-8 over UAM.
THIRD SET (25-14 ASU, ASU wins 3-0)
In the third and final set, the Blossoms scored two points early. The Belles were quick to respond, scoring 10 points over the next 13 serves. Trailing 10-5, UAM rallied to bring the score within three. The final set, however, came to a close with ASU holding off the Blossoms to win 25-14.

FIRST SET (25-17 CMU, CMU leads 1-0)
The opening set began evenly matched with Arkansas-Monticello and Colorado State tied 7-7. The Mavericks pulled ahead with seven points to push them into a 14-10 advantage. UAM worked to cut the deficit to two, but couldn't hold on for the remainder of the match. The Mavs would take set one 25-17 over the Blossoms.
SECOND SET (25-12 CMU, CMU leads 2-0)
The second set looked to be similar to the first. The Blossoms and Mavs were tied 4-4, but CMU responded with a 6-0 rally. The Mavericks wouldn't relinquish control of the set, sealing the deal with another 3-0 and 5-0 rally, to win 25-12.
THIRD SET (25-13 CMU, CMU wins 3-0)
Colorado State had complete control of the third set with a 10-2 lead before the Blossoms made it a five-point game, 14-9. UAM struggled to find their momentum as the Mavs went on to outscore the Blossoms, winning the set, 25-13, and taking the match, 3-0.

The Blossoms return to the court tomorrow, Sept. 6, in San Angelo as they close out the Kathleen Brasfield Invitaitonal with two matches. At 9:30 a.m they will take on Adams State for the first time in program history, followed by Texas Permian Basin at 5:30 p.m inside the Junell Center - Stephens Arena.
