HART LEADS UAM TO 73-61 WIN OVER TAMU-COMMERCE

MONTICELLO – Junior Alex Hart scored 21 points to lead the University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team to a 73-61 win over Texas A&M-Commerce in the final game of the Fourth Annual Dr. Mary Jane Gilbert Classic.

 

Hart finished the game 5-of-13 from the field, including 2-of-6 from three-point range. The Thurnhill, Ontario native also was 9-of-10 from the foul line to go along with her four assists.

 

Sophomore Jerica Hubbard was UAM’s next highest scorer with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Channon Haywood also reached double-digits with 11 points.

 

As a team, the Cotton Blossoms (2-3) finished the game shooting 39 percent from the field (24-of-62), 33 percent from three-point range (8-of-24) and 61 percent from the foul line (17-of-28). The Lady Lions (0-4) shot 35 percent from the field (23-of-66), 14 percent from three-point range (2-of-14) and 77 percent from the foul line (13-of-17).

 

TAMU-Commerce’s Mattilyn McIntyre led all scorers with 24 points and was the only double-digit scorer for her team.

 

McIntyre and UAM’s Jasmine Rush were named to the all-tournament team following the game, joining Ouachita Baptist’s Beulah Osueke and A’Laeshia Adams, and Mobile’s Adrienne Mackay. Osueke was named the classic’s most valuable player.

The Cotton Blossoms return to action next weekend to host the 3rd Annual Holiday Inn Express Classic, starting Friday, December 3 at 5:30 p.m. inside Steelman Field House. UAM’s first game is against St. Mary’s University of Texas at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
