MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team picked up a 73-58 win over West Georgia Saturday at home to finish the 2010 portion of the schedule.
Junior Alex Hart led the Cotton Blossoms (4-6) for the second consecutive game with 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. The Thurnill, Ontario tallied six points at the foul line to go along with three assists a team-high eight rebounds.
Juniors Chelsea Johnson and Channon Haywood also reached double-digits in scoring with 14 points each.
UAM opened the contest on a 7-0 scoring run, including a three-pointer by Hart, to take an early lead, which was never lost.
In the final four minutes of the first half, Hart nailed three three-pointers in a 11-1 scoring run to give the Cotton Blossoms their largest lead of the period at 11 points (29-18) with 52 seconds remaining.
In the second half, UAM grew its lead to as much as 23 points thanks to 58 percent shooting from the field.
UAM finished the contest shooting 46 percent from the field (25-of-54), 39 percent on three-pointers (9-of-23) and 74 percent at the foul line (14-of-19). The Wolves (2-9) shot 34 percent from the field (19-of-56), 25 percent on three-pointers (4-of-16) and 67 percent at the foul line (16-of-24).
Monica Williams led UWG with 16 points. Shaquana Bleach added 11 points off the bench.
The Cotton Blossoms break for the holidays, and return to action January 2-3 with a road-trip to take on North Alabama (1/2, 2 p.m.) and Alabama-Huntsville (1/3, 5:30 p.m.).
